Mick Garris takes the helm for this entry in the popular Masters Of Horror anthology. And you'll never look at E.T. the same way, once you see what's in store for poor 'Elliot' (Henry Thomas).
Credits
Directed by Mick Garris. Starring Henry Thomas.
Mick Garris’ entry in the Masters Of Horror series he
created is simply called "Chocolate." Good title, bad
short. In fact, this one is the worst entry in the
series. Sadly, the creator of this excellent series
could not deliver. I enjoyed Riding the Bullet and
The Stand, so I was hoping for a little more in this
entry.
In "Chocolate," Jamie (Henry Thomas) experiences
flashes of someone else’s life, and obsess him to the
point where he has to find out where they are coming
from. Recently divorced, Jamie begins receiving
flashes of sex, abuse, and the taste of chocolate.
Jamie witnesses a murder through her eyes and then he
begins hunting for her to try and help? Now, this is
where logic steps out... completely. Why would you go
and try to help someone who you knew was a murderer?
Garris falls flat on his face with this entry, and it
seems he might have even tried outdoing the real
masters of horror by adding tons of sex and a little
blood. Well, it ain't and blood that makes it scary,
Mick; it's suspense and what you can't see. Not what
is right in front of your face. The direction was
decent, but like I said before....I was really
expecting a lot more. What was worse is the lack of
resolution at the end. Not that I grew to care about
the characters, but it just made it that much more
pointless. Let's hope this entry is not setting a
trend in the series....all the episodes have been
great, and my hopes are set real high for Joe Dante's
episode "Homecoming."
You can catch "Chocolate" all weekend in multi-plays
on Showtime.
