'Bloody Social' is now a reality!!!

October 15: Jason actor hosts BLOODY SOCIAL

Warrington Gillette, who played Jason in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, is returning to the film business with a horror-thriller he’s created called BLOODY SOCIAL, set among the rich and corrupt in Florida’s Palm Beach. Loosely based on true events from Gillette’s life, the story concerns an actor famed for playing a cinematic killer who believes his deceased father was a victim of foul play. When a group of his fans get wind of his suspicions, a series of gory murders begins to claim the guilty parties and the conspiracy. Fango’s Michael Gingold is writing the script with Gillette; filming is scheduled for early next year and a Halloween 2005 release is being targeted. Go here to check out the official website, which has background on the real story behind the movie and a chance for fans to get involved with the production.

Warrington Gillette, Fangoria, and The Pit are all behind this project so make sure you ALL support this. Keep checking the site for updates. Also, some HUGE names in talks for roles... Actaully, one of the biggest horror icons ever. More soon.

'Darkness Falls' Director making new movie 'Dead Asleep'

"Darkness Falls" helmer Jonathan Liebesman has closed a deal to direct "Dead Asleep" for New Line Cinema.

Penned by Carter Blanchard, the story centers on a small town that becomes infested with a species of killer bugs that come out at night. They burrow inside their victims' bodies, killing people from the inside. It's described as a realistic horror tale in the vein of "28 Days Later" and "The Hot Zone."

Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of ContraFilm will produce with Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone serving as executive producers. At the studio, Richard Brenner, Cale Boyter and Magnus Kim are overseeing. Liebesman is repped by Principato-Young Entertainment, CAA and attorney Karl Austen at Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris. He's also attached to direct "Mile Zero" at Phoenix Pictures. Budgeted at $11 million, his "Darkness Falls" grossed about $50 million internationally after opening at No. 1 in the United States.

Paul W.S. Anderson to write Alien 6?

But what happen to Alien 5?!?!?!?

Dark Horizons discovered the following news, "UK Teletext reports that British director Paul W. S. Anderson ("Alien vs. Predator", "Resident Evil") is to write the sixth movie in the "Alien" franchise, according to sources close to the film maker.

Newcastle-born Anderson, 39, has apparently been asked by Twentieth Century Fox to pen a new script featuring the creatures on their own (ie. no Predators). Whether that includes the return of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) however is unknown.

The offer for the moment is simply to pen the script, not to direct as such although that may happen thanks to the success of AVP.

Glenn Danzig Turning his Horror Comic into a Horror Film!

Projects on his immediate horizon include adapting one of his comics for a movie.

"I have a line of comics called Verotik," he explains, "and Ge Rouge is one I'll be adapting into a screenplay." It will be a turn of the century (1900's) setting with vampires and zombies and will have the minimum requirement of hacked-up bodies, snake blood and naked women, as one would expect. This will be Glenn's first shot at directing a live action, full-feature film, though he has experience directing videos.

Interviewer: Soon you'll direct a movie, what can we expect?

Danzig: It's the first main movie that I put out. The movie Ge Rouge is a story based on the Verotik comics I publish. Off course it's gonna be a horror movie like you've never seen before. There will be a lot of zombies, all kinds of rituals, snakeworshipments, too much to mention... After The Blackest Of The Black tour, we will have to make sure the script is approved, then the pre-production will be done and then we'll go on to seek actors and actresses so we can start working on the movie. When the movie comes out, it'll first be shown in local theatres. If it gets successful there's gonna be a bigger distribution, but let's not run too far ahead

Here's what the comics are based on:

"I believe the story is loosely based on Voodoo lore. Here's a link that may help you out with some terminology."

Link: Click Here

Here are a couple for reference:

Creole Pertaining to the people, language and customs of Haiti; also used with reference to other cultures both West Indian and Latin American. This word comes through the French from a Spanish word meaning "born outside the homeland.

Damballah The principal Sky-Serpent Loa of Voudoun, an archetypally wise, loving but somewhat withdrawn father to his people. His characteristics are his lack of articulate human speech, his affinity with water, and his preference for white or colorless fod and drink. By nature a well as historically, he belongs chiefly to the Dahomey rite (Rada), but it also found in the Ibo and even (as Damballah-Ge_rouge and as Damballah-La-Flambeau) in Petro. His name is directly derived from "Danh-Gbwe."

Ge-Rouge Literally "Red Eye." Title indicating a horrific aspect, added to the names of certain Rada Loa when a particular Petro cult invokes a violent form of their power. Thus are produced Agwe-Ge-Rouge, Damballah Ge-Rouge, Erzulie Ge-Rouge, Ogoun Ge-Rouge.

Kulev A serpent. Some writers restore this Creole word to the French "couleuvre" from which it is derived; but the French word means "an adder," a poisonous snake, whereas "kulev" in its Voudoun context signifies the harmless Haitian serpent which represents Damballah and Ayida Wedo.

"As for Ge Rouge(red eyes), as the story goes, a character named Papa John Carrefour believed he was the baddest Voodoo in town until a young Ge-Rouge came along and started getting attention. Papa John was jealous so he set up Ge Rouge to have him murdered and succeeded at giving him a swamp grave. Years pass and a girl named Kulev stumbles upon the body of Ge Rouge and he is brought back to life for revenge. He makes Kulev his Voodoo Queen(snake rituals) and together they are set on killing Papa John or so it seems. Zombi are sent by Papa John after the two to stop them."

'Silent Hill' Adaptation to Start Shooting in February!

For those concerned about the speed writing on "Silent Hill, you need not fear. Let me explain, when I arrived in Paris a highly detailed treatment had been in the works for over a month by Christophe Gans and Nicholas Boukhrief. I spent three intensive weeks with Christophe, rewriting the treatment to perfection, and then Nicholas did another pass on it. Then, I sat down and over the next three weeks put together the first draft. Now, although we have something that resembles a finished script, with dialog and formatting and little details worked out -- it's still technically a pre-draft. I spent today with Christophe taking character notes -- examining what doesn't work. And there's plenty. Keep in mind, no script is a movie. It's a blueprint toward production...and the blueprints tend to change along the way. The reason we wrote this FAST is because it's a GO MOVIE.

Christophe and his production team desperately need something to begin the boarding and budgeting process. They need to plan for the massive special effects in the film. They need to begin all of the preproduction that goes into making a movie -- they begin shooting in February, after all. So, although I'll be leaving Paris and going back home to my orange farm and cats, work on "Silent Hill" will continue. It's quite likely that writing will continue right up into shooting. So everybody relax. We're making a movie here, not just a script.

Staurt Gordon Speaks! 'House of Re-Animator' Still in the Works!

One idea I am kicking around is House of Re-animator. It is a political satire that should certain people be back in office, then I would do it. I hope I do not have to go ahead with it, but if I do, it would be about V.P. Cheney passing from a heart attack and since he basically runs everything, Dr. West is called in to bring him back. I would only go on with this in the event of re-election as otherwise it would be old news.

Another project I am looking at is a project with Jack Ketchum called Ladys Night it is about a toxic spill that happens in Manhattan. It only affects woman but turns them into killing machines and it is a mix of real time, mayhem, and carnage.

'Scream 4' in the Works? Oh my!

Could there be a sequel to the popular SCREAM trilogy in the works already? According to our latest scooper the answer to that question is...of course there is!

Contacting us yesterday, the individual explained how they came by this information (which we're keeping confidential for fear of reprisal to the original source.) According to them, Miramax and its specialty offshoot Dimension Films are developing a number of ideas for possible fruition, some of which are original works while others could be sequels to past Miramax/Dimension films. "As you probably already know, they're doing a lot of 'em. Lots direct to DVD. And it looks like there is more on the way," wrote our scooper before plunging on to the meat of the matter.

"There's talk of a new SCREAM movie, heralded by producer Cath Konrad, that's supposed to get into gear next year sometime," they add. "What upset me was hearing that it wouldn't be a Kevin Williamson - Wes Craven film. It'll be penned and no doubt directed by some other unnamed hack. OK, so as far as [X] knows, it'll have the original cast in it - but who cares if it isn't Craven?! I think they've been thinking about doing another one for a couple of years and have seen a good bunch of treatments...

"And why isn't Williamson involved? He's apparently turned his attention to simply producing stuff. They've put him on another project called BACKWATERS, which is a voodoo-thriller starring unknowns."

THE PIT IS FREAKING OUT

After all the buzz about the independent British horror slash comedy, Freak Out, the Pit decided to get in touch with the outfit responsible, Beyond Therapy Ent Ltd. We had expressed a keen interest in this movie, it is afterall, upcoming, fresh and horror. On top of that it is largely unknown and had a budget that would make a shoestring look imposing, in terms of movie making. It basically had no budget; which brings out the cult in me, it really does.

This is the kind of horror movie that puts the PIT into gear, an independent and underground production. Made by fans of the genre for fans of the genre. I can say with complete conviction that this is a splendid little feature debut from Christian James.

The movie kicks off with a blast to the past, where we see a strange little kid getting tormented at school. Eventually he runs off, swearing revenge. He turns up a number of years later, apparently living the lifestyle of a certain Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers, an escaped mental patient or living in the woods or something.

In anycase, this first set piece is hilarious. The man has indeed returned to the school for his revenge, as he promised when he ran off 13 years prior, however, the school has since been demolished. "Oh shit". Priceless.

This immediately puts Freak Out in good stead with me. The two main characters "Merv" (James Heathcote) and "Onkey" (Dan Palmer) are best friends and horror buffs. Merv's room is a well laid out shrine to all the horror flicks you Pitters love best. Onkey is the local idiot who works at the local bowling alley. They...ahem...aquire this mental patient and decide to mold him into the ultimate killer along the lines of Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers for example. Armed with a spatula or a frying pan or something...well...you get the picture, it makes for a fun view.

The obvious aspect, that a horror movie goer like me is going to appreciate in this movie, is all the wicked references. The Psycho shower scene, which ends up in utter, complete back scrubbing madness, and inevitably almost as scary at the classic scene in Hitchcock's classic it is based on, for humerous reasons, is ecstatic.

When it comes down to it, the entire premise of the movie is one of hilarity. The actual horror is pretty much few and far between, I guess when the budget comes out, so does the gore. The references, however, are awesome. From Friday the 13th to Evil Dead to Halloween to almost every good Zombie horror flick ever made. You name it, your favourite horror movies are paid homage in this ridiculous satire of horror humour, a humour that requires a specialist audience in some cases, but overall it could appeal to everybody with it's quirky nature. I mean, the "killer" wears a hockey mask OVER a sack with a bright orange boiler suit, and has a ridiculously high pitched voice. And he is utterly hopeless at killing people. It is hilarious.

What we have here is alot of potential. The budget really was small, but the vision is big. The eccentric characters and genre references were entirely welcomed. The ridiculous dialogue and plot was welcome. And Freak Out is welcome in my movie collection. For sure.

I will be waiting with baited breath, firstly to see if this little gem gets distro, but also for the next project from Yazz and the guys...surely boys?

ARTISTS ADDICTION SOUNDTRACKS & KOCH RECORDS RELEASE...

SAW

VISCERAL CD COMPANION TO TWISTED PICTURES/LIONS GATE HORROR FILM INCLUDES FEAR FACTORY, FRONTLINE ASSEMBY, PITBULL DAYCARE & SCORE BY CHARLIE CLOUSER

Artists Addiction Soundtracks/KOCH Records has kicked off the 2004 Halloween season on a chilling note with the release of the original motion picture soundtrack to the much-anticipated Twisted Pictures' horror film Saw, which opens at theaters nationwide on October 29th. The CD is a truly unique and inventive soundscape that eerily captures the horror flick's disturbing surrealism.

The film is expected to turn the horror film genre on its head. Saw is designed to shock the viewer with its primeval combination of gritty realism and stark surreal fantasy . Released through Lions Gate Films and starring Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Royal Tenenbaums), Carey Elwes (Shadow of the Vampire, Kiss the Girls, Bram Stoker's Dracula), Monica Potter (Along Came A Spider) and Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers, Birds of Prey), the movie stunned audiences at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, which harkened it as a "landscape of indelible horror." Rue Morgue Magazine attested that the film "will make your skin crawl right off your bones."

Saw was scored by Charlie Clouser (former keyboardist/programmer/drummer for the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, White Zombie). Although this is the first film he has scored, his work can be found on such high-profile soundtracks as The Matrix, Scream, Lost Highway, and Howard Stern's Private Parts. Clouser was chosen to score the film after a meeting with Saw director James Wan, who wanted a composer who could enhance the sensibility of his style. "He was so enthusiastic about the film, says Wan (who also contributes liner notes to the soundtrack). He had so many great ideas; I knew he was the one to go with." Utilizing unconventional instrumentation and musical assistance from Helmet's Page Hamilton and NIN's Danny Lohner among others, Clouser created a score both ingenious and unorthodox, akin to Jerry Goldsmith's 1968 groundbreaking score to Planet of the Apes. Saw music coordinator Jonathan Platt confirms, "The only word that comes to mind after spending a good amount of time with Charlie is BRILLIANT." Clouser currently scores the music for the hit television series Las Vegas.

Additional music, amplifying the implacable atmosphere of Saw, is provided by Front Line Assembly, Enemy (featuring Troy Van Leeuwen of A Perfect Circle), Cleopatra Records artists Pitbull Daycare and Psycho Pomps, and soundtrack stalwarts Fear Factory, whose Bite The Hand That Bleeds not only serves as the first single for Saw, but also is featured as the film's closing credits theme.

Platt explains the choice, "I played the song for Saw producer Gregg Hoffman, and he loved it and decided to use it for the end title theme. This is a very dark movie, and the song really works well with the film's tone. The mood, music, and textures of the song accentuate this movie."

Fear Factory frontman Burton C. Bell, excited to be involved with the project, offers his thoughts, "This is definitely the kind of movie I would go see, because it's really dark, along the lines of Se7en, Silence of the Lambs and Cube, but more visceral and graphic. Though not the first movie we've ever had a song in [previous credits include Hideaway (1995), Mortal Kombat (1995), Carrie 2 (1999), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)], it's one I am most anticipating". Fear Factory is promoting Saw along their autumn 2004 tour trail and a video for the track is airing soon. The band had previously worked with Platt for the soundtrack to the 2004 sci-fi anime film Galerians: Rion, which featured a remix of the single Archetype.

Artists Addiction Soundtracks/Song Stew Music formed in early 2004 . The principles have previously been involved with soundtracks for such projects as the WB hit series Charmed and USA's The Dead Zone. The label established a working relationship with Lion's Gate through the latter project and became enthralled with working on Saw after an initial preview screening. Platt concludes, "We are excited about releasing Saw as our inaugural film soundtrack, as the movie and music are both very intense, disturbing and mind blowing. We're sure they will become cult favorites for years to come."

-A trailer for the film can be viewed here: www.lionsgatefilms.com/profile/saw.php and the movie's official website is www.sawmovie.com

RIP Janet Leigh 1927-2004

Janet Leigh, the wholesome beauty whose shocking murder in the classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller "Psycho""Psycho" was credited with making generations of film fans think twice about stepping into a motel room shower, has died. She was 77. The actress' husband, Robert Brandt, and her daughters, actresses Kelly Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis, were at their mother's side when she died Sunday at her Beverly Hills home, said Heidi Schaeffer, a spokeswoman for Jamie Lee Curtis.

Jeff Katz Talks Freddy vs. Jason 2!

If you’re a genre fan, New Line Cinema would be a great place to work. Not only is the company one of the busiest genre producers around - and responsible for the creation of horror icon Freddy Krueger and the resurrection of Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th franchise - but there’s also a real entrepreneurial spirit at the company which means that if you’re former production head Michael De Luca you get the chance to write the tepid 1995 John Carpenter film In the Mouth of Madness(the opening scenes were interesting but it was all downhill from there)and if you’re current big honcho Toby Emmerich you get to write the superb 2000 time-travel thriller Frequency. Heck, if you’re a janitor at New Line, you could probably write 976-Evil 3. If you work at New Line, and you have an idea, someone will listen to you.

Jeff Katz is an executive at New Line Cinema, and a big genre fan, and, as many fans now know, he wrote a 20 page treatment for Freddy Vs. Jason 2, which has been read by everyone except me(someone send me a copy). The project is notable because it teams Freddy and Jason with Ash, the darkly comic hero from the Evil Dead films. The Corner had a chance to briefly chat with Katz and ask him about the status of Freddy Vs. Jason 2.

Q: Can you confirm Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash or Freddy Vs. Jason 2 as it’s currently titled?

Katz: There’s nothing official on the Freddy Vs. Jason 2 front yet, but I wrote the treatment and we’re all very excited about it.

Q: Are you worried that Ash - given the fact that none of the Evil Dead films were box office hits - might be too obscure of a character for mainstream audiences - fans who aren’t as familiar with the Evil Dead films as the cult audience is?

Katz: It’s not about box office and what would make for the most commercial sequel. It’s about delivering a story that will be better than the first and a story that makes sense given the continuity of the franchises.

Q: Everyone talks about teaming Freddy and Jason with Michael Myers from the Halloween series. What about Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Michael Myers?

Katz: As a fan, I think Michael would be an ill-fit with Freddy and Jason as - in Michael Myers’ universe in the Halloween films - Michael is a real guy, Thorn notwithstanding.

Q: A lot of fans of the Jason Voorhees character felt that Jason was underutilized in Freddy Vs. Jason, and that he was nothing more than a second banana in the film. How are you going to make Jason more interesting in the sequel, given that he’s a sullen, voiceless monster with no emotions?

Katz: We heard that from fans too and I think part of that’s because Freddy has so much personality, especially compared to Jason, and any other character would be overshadowed standing next to Freddy. My entire idea is to help turn Jason into a bit more of a three-dimensional character without losing what makes him a scary badass. We have a cool twist I’m hoping will happen.

Q: It would’ve easy for you, given the success of Freddy Vs. Jason, to rush a sequel into development, but you’re clearly taking your time. You must really care?

Katz: Absolutely. We’re not rushing. Nobody around here wants to make Halloween: Resurrection.

Tony Todd's new movie 'Shadow'

Tony Todd isn't through with death just yet. The 49-year-old genre actor with the recognizable husky, baritone voice went a few rounds with the walking dead in Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead remake. He's going to be aiming for the head once again in Fever Dreams' sophomore effort tentatively titled Shadow.

Todd has just signed aboard the project that is currently shooting in and around the Philadelphia area with Derek Wan making his directorial debut. Wan's cinematography backround mostly consists of Hong Kong features like Jet Li's Fist of Legend and Once Upon a Time in China V. He's taking a little bit of that kung-fu action he's accustomed to and is applying it to Shadow which is supposedly a heavy horror/action hybrid. Enter the Dragon's Tony Leung Siu-Hung is serving as the action choreographer.

In Shadow, newcomer Carla Greene leads a group of tough-ass chicks in a women's prison (Martha Stewart doesn't make the cut) who, in order to survive, must unite to wage an all-out battle with the undead who have surfaced on the prison's grounds. Hmm, I wonder if they find the time to get nekkid. Shadow is also the name of Todd's character.

Fever Dreams made its debut with 2003's Flesh for the Beast widely distributed by Media Blasters.

Clive Barker talks 'Tortured Souls' and 'Rawhead Rex' Being Remade!

Tortured Souls is expected to be his next project as writer/director. It's based on the recent Todd McFarlane adult figurine collection which Mr. Barker wrote an accompanying story for. Mr. Barker describes it as "unapologetically horror", says it will use CGI as little as possible and it'll just barely get an R rating but the DVD will be NC-17, so that should be kick ass. He also seems to have as many possible projects as Quentin Tarantino, including adaptations of his brilliant novels The Books of Blood, The Thief of Always, Abarat and Weaveworld all in the works. He says he wishes he could clone himself so he can get everything done that he wants to get done, and I'm against human cloning but if we could get twice as much creative output from the minds of Clive Barker and Quentin Tarantino, I'm all for it.

The Abarat book collection will be in three parts. It was written around a collection of around 400 paintings he's been working on the last few years. They are not for sale but will be going on a tour around the country and can be glimpsed on the recent Fangoria Blood Drive DVD extra features or in the Abarat books themselves.

Rawhead Rex from the Books of Blood will be remade. Although Mr. Barker is credited as writing the original he was not happy with how it turned out and wants to remake it. He describes Rawhead Rex as a "9 ft tall phallus with teeth" and the story concerns Rawhead being accidentally resurrected in a small English town where it proceeds to use it's intelligence and hunting skills to devour the local population, especially it's children.

Mr. Barker says he likes to hide away, is uncomfortable with fame and only comes out to buy DVD's and comic books. His DVD collection, which puts Moriarty's to shame, is over 6000. Some of his recent favorites are High Tension and Anatomy from Germany and Queen Margot from France. He also enjoys what the Japanese have been doing with horror lately. He likes movies with extremes, hates chick flicks, doesn't particularly like comedy except for maybe dry British humor and this might come as a shock, hates the American Pie movies and Van Helsing.

Mr. Barker says he would like to write for at least 30 more years and eventually reach at least 50 books. He's at 20 books right now. He says that anyone who wants to become a writer needs to educate and discipline themselves so they can hold onto "fugitive ideas" whenever they may come, including on the toilet. He says that Pinhead came to him in a dream, or in what would be described as a nightmare by most people.

Anyway, there's a lot more I'm holding back including what's next for Harry D'Amoure(Lord of Illusions) and Pinhead (Hellraiser) because I want everyone who's interested to go to his website, look at the schedule and attend a book signing near them. I believe that all who do will too become disciples and will enjoy the strange and wonderful imaginings of the great artist Clive Barker."
