DreamWorks is sticking to its November 10 release date for the sequel-but as we've mentioned here before, with the similarly Japanese-inspired The Grudge and Dark Water already rolling for October and November release respectively, and now given this latest development, it would be no surprise if Ring 2 shifted to an early-2005 berth. Thanks to Fangoria for the heads up.

It's about an outcast high-school girl who is accidentally killed during a nasty prank. She soon returns from the grave, however, as a seductive teen vixen with mind-control powers who seeks revenge on her tormentors. The Wu-Tang Clan has been signed for the soundtrack.
Friday the 13th DVD Box Set: Not much, but it is exciting news. Scooped by Bloody Disgusting - One of my good buddies on the inside, whom wishes to remain anonymous, had some good news regarding the Friday the 13th box set, "Paramount has confirmed that Special Editions of ALL eight Paramount owned Friday the 13th flicks ARE DEFINITELY coming out in 2004!!" This may not sound like news to you, considering the speculated September release, but notice he said "special editions of all eight." That means every disc could be jammed packed with hockey mask goodness! Also, I can back this story up people because the Pit of Horror is working with Toolbox productions on one of those special features (possibly featuring a glimpse of one of your favorite webmasters). Keep checking the hub for more details.
Strangeland 2: Fangoria talked to Dee Sinder recently about the long awaited sequel. "There's a lot of interest in making a STRANGELAND 2," he tells us. "Clearly there's a solid cult following for the first movie. As a matter of fact, I'm told it's one of the most stolen videotapes in the rental stores-it goes out and never comes back! I'm currently working on a new version of STRANGELAND 2, because the first script is tied up in the courts with the original film's producer, the Shooting Gallery, and all their legal problems. It has been over four years now that this has been in court, and we're waiting for the whole mess to be cleared up so we can get into the preproduction phase with the sequel. The story I came up with for it will remain the same, but the old version was scripted by another writer, Dave Marfield, from my story. Dave is a good friend of mine who I brought in because I did not have time to write that first script, and the Shooting Gallery was ready to move forward with the sequel [before it went bankrupt]. "So now that I have a little more time, I've taken it upon myself to write a new one on my own-as I did on the original movie-which I like better. The second script continues with the reality-based approach, and I've tried to imagine what would happen next if the Captain Howdy character actually existed. Hence the full title: STRANGELAND 2: THE CULT OF PERSONALITY. And when you see how he survives his death [in the original film], you'll believe it! It's not the FRANKENSTEIN 'he fell though the floorboards to the water below'!"
Blade 3: Trinity: David Goyer spills some serious plot details on Blade 3: Trinity courtesy of B-D.
Lets Scare Jessica to Death: News on the remake can be found here.
Underworld 2: Confirming what was already pretty much a given, Variety reports that Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment are have set a fall production start for the sequel to UNDERWORLD, the monster-war actioner that scored at the box office last fall. Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman will return to their roles as a vampire assassin and a lycanthrope who come together in the midst of a war between their species; director Len Wiseman and screenwriter Danny McBride are also back, with the latter due to turn in his script by early April.
Robo-Cop coming back to DVD: Davis DVD reports that a new extras-packed DVD of Paul Verhoeven’s violent classic ROBOCOP is coming June 8 from MGM as part of a ROBOCOP TRILOGY boxed set (previously released in Britain). All three films in the series will be presented in fresh anamorphic widescreen transfers, with the first movie in its unrated extended cut. The original will also have an audio commentary (different from the one on Criterion’s now out-of-print disc) by director Paul Verhoeven, producer Jon Davison and screenwriter Ed Neumeier, a new “Flesh And Steel: The Making of ROBOCOP” documentary, four deleted scenes, a film-to-storyboard comparison with optional commentary by FX creator Phil Tippett, a pair of vintage featurettes, a still gallery, trailers and a TV spot. Retail price for the boxed set will be $39.96; ROBOCOP 2 and 3 will also be issued separately for $14.98 each, but Verhoeven’s film will only be available as part of the box.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: Skinfreak: Pretty strange news, but apparently it *is* officialy the sequel to the film in book form. It will be available on March 1st, 2004 and you can pre-order it here. You can also pre-order the official book to the remake by clicking here. Both books are from author Stephen Hand, who also brought us the Freddy vs. Jason novel.

The Exorcist: The Beginning: "Renny Harlin's reshoot of "Exorcist: The Beginning" wrapped Feb. 22 after 13 weeks on Rome's Cinecitta Studios backlot, where word is that not a single frame of the footage shot by Paul Schrader will be included in the bedeviled prequel's new cut. Harlin's 13-week effort equals the amount of time spent by Schrader on his original shoot.
House of Wax casting news: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elisha Cuthbert is in final talks to join Chad Michael Murray in the cast of Dark Castle/Warner Bros.' HOUSE OF WAX. The in-name-only remake, which rolls soon in Australia under Jaume Collet-Serra's direction, focuses on a group of young people threatened by a maniac in a remote town who wants to turn them into attractions at his creepy wax museum. Cuthbert plays Kiefer Sutherland's daughter on the award-winning Fox series "24" and stars in the March 12 release THE GIRL NEXT DOOR in the title role, the crush object of a neighbor boy who turns out to be a former porn star. WAX is currently slated to open October 22.
Kosar talks Amityville: For those of us who saw THE AMITYVILLE HORROR when it was released in 1979, it’s easy to remember the publicity storm around the “true story” of the Lutz family, whose fly-infested, demon-whispering, pig-loving abode left us fearful of our own attic windows. But for many of us now-sophisticated gorehounds, revisiting this dated and-let’s face it-silly movie leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps this is why Michael Bay at Platinum Dunes decided to remake the film, with TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake writer Scott Kosar bringing his modern sensibilities to the ’70s horror favorite. “I remember when I saw AMITYVILLE in the theaters, it was all the rage,” Kosar recalls. “It’s really bizarre how in our childhood recollections the movie is absolutely terrifying. Looking back, there were certain moments that were memorable, but here we are 25 years later and we need to reinvent things. Whereas CHAINSAW was intimidating in that I didn’t think there was any way to improve upon the original, there’s plenty of room for improvement with AMITYVILLE.” Though the ’79 film is clearly lacking by today’s standards, Kosar credits the success of the original to the decade’s fascination with demonic possession. “I personally believe the whole story of Amityville came into existence because of the success of THE EXORCIST and THE OMEN,” Kosar explains. “I’m not saying that the Lutzes’ story didn’t happen-I’ll leave that for someone else to decide. But I know Hollywood and the publishers saw a market for that story, and I don’t think it would have happened had THE EXORCIST not been what it was.”Although Kosar is contractually sworn to secrecy about much of the new film, Fango was able to pry loose a few delectable tidbits. “Although I wouldn’t call it the most faithful remake, I can say that we are being more faithful to the book than the film. But it’s being reinvented in a way that will make it feel more contemporary.” But then Kosar grows cautious. “Platinum Dunes, MGM and Dimension-there are a lot of people involved and a lot of excitement. As was the case with CHAINSAW, we want to keep the lid on things as much as possible so there’s some anticipation and surprise. We don’t want to show our cards too soon. But I can say that I think we’re making a better movie than the first one.” The new AMITYVILLE is due to hit theaters January 14, 2005.
Tortured Souls 3 news: Apparently some debate was sparked over on McFarlan'es message boards as to what, exactly, the new Tortured Souls line would consist of. Some had a theory that it would be a different series all together, so this weekend Jon Goff, one of the staff members at McFarlane Toys, officially declared that what was Clive Barker's Infernal Parade: Tortured Souls III, will now just be Clive Barker's Infernal Parade. Initially they had thought the new figures, which are said to be circus-themed, would fit into the existing TS world, but as it evolved both Barker and McFarlane agreed it would work best as it's own series. As Goff put it; "Think of the Infernal Parade as the Nightbreed to Tortured Souls' Hellraiser - same creators, but with a new twist"Goff went on to explain that there more than likely will be more Tortured Souls figures, but nothing's for sure until Todd says socool thing is that means we could be looking at two ongoing collaborations between the two sickos instead of just one, and that's never a bad thing.
Premonition: "Hyde Park Entertainment is reteaming with its "Bringing Down the House" helmer Adam Shankman on Bill Kelly's thriller "Premonition". Hyde Park will co-finance the pic, which revolves around a Midwest housewife whose husband dies in a car crash -- only to appear alive the next day.

Leatherface kills again: Pretty Dangerous Films has announced that Andrew Bryniarski, Leatherface himself from the TEXAS CHAINSAW remake, is the executive producer and plays the title villain in its supernatural shocker EL CHARRO. Directed by Richard Ragsdale from a script by Ryan Johnson, who also produced with Kevin Ragsdale, the film is about four college girls who are terrorized by the spirit of El Charro, an evil 18th-century land baron who slaughtered the family of a young woman who had spurned his romantic advances. One of the coeds is apparently a reincarnation of the old object of his desire, leading El Charro’s ghost to commit a bloody rampage. The cast also includes Mia Hoyos, Philip Boyd, Heidi Androl, Matt Prater, Kellydawn Malloy and Kathryn Taylor, with a cameo by Lemmy of Motorhead. At the site linked above, you can check out the film’s opening sequence; a trailer, photos and more will be posted there soon. Pretty Dangerous also has another horror film on its slate called SOULLESS, though no details are available yet on that one.
KNB to take on TLC: The boys at KNB EFX have proudly informed Fango that they’ll be taking part in the season finale of The Learning Channel’s JUNKYARD WARS show. The series pits teams against each other to create battling robots, and for this two-hour special episode, the groups are comprised of four members each from FX houses KNB, Industrial Light and Magic and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. KNB’s Howard Berger informs Fango, “Our own Dave Wogh, Tim Ralston, Jake McKinnon and Little Al Lorenzana take on the competition in a death-defying challenge as we humiliate, make fun of, wear Elvis wigs and even fart on the other teams in order to distract them in their fever pitch! It is sure to be fun, so watch and support our troops!” The episode airs on TLC February 22 at 8 p.m., February 23 at 12 a.m., February 24 at 9 p.m., February 25 at 12 a.m. and February 29 at 3 p.m.
Bubba Ho-Tep DVD And Bubba Nosferatu: One of the most exciting bits of news on the recent genre DVD front was the announcement that MGM Home Video will be releasing BUBBA HO-TEP May 25. Fango just talked to writer/director Don Coscarelli, who shared some details about what to expect from the disc. “It’ll have all the standard features of a fully loaded DVD release, like deleted scenes, trailer and TV spots,” he reveals. “But there will be a bunch of really cool things as well. There’s going to be a commentary with Bruce Campbell and I, and when he does a commentary, it’s always fun. We’ll have several featurettes, which will include a very exciting making-of and others focusing on specific aspects of the movie; there’ll be one on the music [by Brian Tyler], including a never-before-seen BUBBA HO-TEP music video.” And then there’s that one supplement that has been much-anticipated by BUBBA fans: “We have a special commentary by a special guest, [Campbell as] Elvis Presley himself,” Coscarelli confirms. “It’s hilarious. It’s basically a 90-minute performance piece by Bruce: He takes phone calls, eats popcorn, plays a few new songs on an out-of-tune guitar and bascially gives his take on the movie, what he really thinks. It’s its own little unique work of art, as only Bruce could do it.” And one last question remains: What of the possibility that the BUBBA NOSFERATU follow-up promised at the end of the movie might actually see fruition? “Bruce and I would love to do a sequel, no question,” Coscarelli says. “There’s so much more he can do with the Elvis character, so if every FANGORIA fan buys two copies of the BUBBA HO-TEP DVD, or buys one for themselves and one for a friend, maybe that will happen!”
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel: Michael Bay revealed today that the TEXAS CHAINSAW follow-up that he and his partners are working on will be a prequel, though a scripter has yet to be signed to the project.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre DVD page is up: Click on that pretty picture of Leatherface to your right for all the grissly details, pictures, screen shots, and more. The Pit of Horror will be giving away several of theses DVD's in a contest.
Alien vs. Predator clip revealed: Bloody Disgusting and Empire Online have some pretty interesting details on what you should expect to see in the highly anticipated AvP. Check it out here. Thanks to B-D & Empire Online for the heads up.
Amityville Horror remake update: Michael Bay handed out some info about the movie, which will follow the 28 days the Lutz family spent in the notoriously haunted house. "It is not a slasher film and is certainly more cerebral than 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre,' but we found Scott to be very good at knowing signature moments from an original film, and how to change it enough to feel fresh."
No director has been chosen as of yet, but Bay said they're currently shortening a list of possibilities and I'm sure an announcement will be made soon enough. At least with Kosar on board we can be pretty sure we're going to get something that will make all the craziness surrounding this remake worth it.
Bay also hinted that they're still batting around the idea of a TCM prequel, but don't know yet if Kosar will be involved or not.
Toolbox Murders: Tobe Hooper’s remake of TOOLBOX MURDERS, which stars MAY’s Angela Bettis (and which we at Fango say is the director’s best film in ages), will make its U.S. premiere at the first annual Fearless Tales Genre Fest, being held at San Francisco’s Victoria Theatre (2961 16th Street) March 11-14. Hooper himself will be on hand to receive the Fearless Vision Award; also attending is another veteran genre director, Jack Hill, who will present a director’s cut of his cult classic SPIDER BABY with six minutes of never-before-seen footage. The Fearless Tales fest will present 18 features-ranging from classics like Jean Rollin’s LIVING DEAD GIRL and Lamberto Bava’s DEMONS to new indies such as KILLER ME, I’LL BURY YOU TOMORROW, SACRED FLESH and the wonderfully titled FEAST OF THE PRAYING MANTIS and SLAUGHTERHOUSE OF THE RISING SUN-and 25 short films, including many U.S. and world premieres; distributor Zealot Pictures will pick up at least one movie showcased at the event for DVD distribution.
Dark Shadows coming back to TV: Variety reports that Rob Bowman, who directed numerous episodes of THE X FILES as well as the feature-film version, will helm the pilot for the WB’s new DARK SHADOWS series. SHADOWS creator Dan Curtis has teamed with John (ER) Wells’ company for this latest incarnation, with Mark (TIMECOP) Verheiden executive-producing the show with the duo and scripting the pilot. Bowman is a busy guy lately, as the trade also reports that he’s in negotiations to direct ELEKTRA, the movie spinoff of DAREDEVIL starring Jennifer Garner in the title role, for Fox and Regency.
Join the Zombie Army: Pretty cool little site here you all need to take a look at. Be sure to click on the banner below to join.
The Thing 2: Countingdown reports that director John Carpenter has a script ready for the proposed sequel to his 1982 Antartic horror classic.
Kill Bill, Vol. 2: An international teaser poster is now up at Intertain.
King Kong: Principal photography is expected to start sometime in August.
Dawn of the Dead: The new one-sheet is up at Movieweb.
Boo!: Details on the new Anthony C. Ferrante film are up at UHM.
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead: Mark Ruffalo, Christian Slater, Amanda Peet, Kip Pardue, Patricia Arquette, and (possibly) James Gandolfini have seemingly signed on for the new Lions Gate film from director Austin Chick ("XX/XY"). "Devil" is essentially a character piece involving a robbery that goes bad for everyone involved.
Cemetery Gates: Production began last week on Graveyard Filmworks’ CEMETERY GATES, which follows on the heels of Anthony Ferrante’s just-wrapped BOO, the company’s first effort. The film is being helmed by SOTA FX chief Roy Knyrim, who recently made his directorial debut on DEMONS AT THE DOOR (see Fango #229). As previously reported here, CEMETERY GATES revolves around a genetically altered creature (described as a Tasmanian Devil-like critter) that gets loose underneath the titular locale where some college kids are partying.
"The creature itself looks pretty good," reports the film’s star, New York actor Peter Stickles. "It’s about 8 feet tall with a fully animatronic head. I spent a good amount of time in the workshop with the guys building it before we started filming. They had to test out some of the bloodier special effects on someone, and that was me! I got my arm ripped off, my stomach sliced open and had all my guts spill out! I was absolutely covered in blood by the end of the day. Roy just kept yelling, ‘More blood!’ It was shooting about 3 feet out of me every time! I also had to wrestle around with the creature a lot, having it tackle me and shred me up and bite me and things like that."
Home Sick: Don May Jr. of DVD company Synapse Films has revealed to Fango that he has just acquired the indie shocker HOME SICK for disc release later this year. "I’m working in depth with the writer and producer, Evan Katz," May tells us. "We’re going to have a lot of extras on it-audio commentary, deleted scenes and anything else we can dig up." Directed by Adam Wingard, HOME SICK follows a young woman who returns to her hometown, only for her welcoming party to be crashed by a murderous motivational speaker played by Bill (HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES) Moseley. Lindley Evans, Tom (HENRY) Towles, Tiffany (SCARECROW) Shepis and Jeff Dylan (DEAD & ROTTING) Graham also star; go here to check out HOME SICK’s official website.
Dawn of the Dead 2: According to Moviehole, Universal are apparently on the hunt for a writer to pen a sequel to their upcoming “Dawn of the Dead” remake. Funny, we can get a sequel to a remake but not a fourth dead film. Amazing. UPDATE This rumor has been denounced by Universal. No sequel talks yet.
House of the Dead 2: According to the Playstation magazine, House of the Dead 2 will blind us in March of '05 and, "will be a huge war movie where the AMS response team has to take over a city infiltrated by zombies. It's all a little like escape
from New York." The third film is threatening to be a Mad Max-meets-28 Days Later style post-apocalyptic zombie epic where the zombie epidemic is now world-wide.
Movie Maniacs 7 announced: If you haven't noticed, the announcement has come through Spawn.com rather than the usual channle: the NYC Toy Fair; this is due to the fact that McFarlane no longer sets up shop at the event. Instead he has made his site's annual "Toyfest" something to look forward to in and of itself.
Hellraiser: The series: Creature Corner broke a story today about a possible Hellraiser TV series comning soon. The series itself was described as "urban gothic", essentially a "Friday the 13th: The Series" or "Freddy's Nightmares" -type show with different tales relating somewhat to the Hellraiser mythos. The cenobites might show up from time to time, but the show will be more about the humans than the beasts that torture them. This is also a bit unsurprising considering that's been the focus of the last few movies, but man it'd sure be nice to see Doug Bradley get some steady work. The show is being made for the BBC, Channel 4. I should clarify, that's a pisser for those of us in the U.S. For those that actually get the BBC, you'll be golden.
Seed of Chucky: Moviehole writes, "Cristi Nicelescu has signed on to be the production designer on Seed of Chucky. Nicelescu is currently in L.A for prep. It's his first time in the Country. His previous credits include "Dracula 3 - Legacy" and "Method", starring Liz Hurley, which is currently in post. Also recently joining the production is Mark Allen, a whiz at animatronics. It's believed Allen might also be involved in a follow-up to 'Seed'. "Seed of Chucky" is about the androgynous son of Chucky and Tiffany who goes to Los Angeles looking for his parents who live in Jennifer Tilly's house. They use Tilly as a surrogate for Chucky's seed.
Henriksen talks Alien vs. Predator: 'Bishop' himself Lance Henriksen talked quite in-depth about his role as billionaire industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland in "Alien vs. Predator" to Web Magic and had some interesting stuff to say about the effects: "When you look at that movie [Master and Commander] they spent almost $50 million on the special effects storm … I knew it was digital the minute I saw it … all our stuff, it’s real and then they use the effects just for that added … to enhance it. So it’s a much different movie that way .. he’s very smart about it. There are some things that are impossible to do, there is no other way of doing it .. but we’re only talking a 2 second shot. So we’re in a great zone, it’s really original". That full interview can be found here.
Spider-Man 3: HotDog Magazine reports that Eliza Dushku (Faith from "Buffy"/"Angel") is Sam Raimi's favourite choice for the role of Felicia Hardy (aka. The Black Cat).
Starship Troopers 2: The DVD cover art and international release date information can be found at the official site.
Gunn talks Dawn remake: Moviehole writes, "Gunn shed some light on his involvement with the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. "Basically my involvement was writing the original scripts. Dawn and Scooby shot at the same time, and I had producing duties to attend to on Scooby 2. The remake aspect (of 'Dawn') didn't appeal to me all that much. What appealed to me was a hardcore zombie horror apocalypse film set in a mall. And I did think because of the title the movie would get made. A script as violent as it was probably would not have gotten greenlit if it didn't have the Dawn title. It differs from the original in most ways, besides the central premise of a sole band of survivors being trapped in a mall surrounded by a sea of zombies. Other than that, it's its own thing."
The Crow: Wicked Prayer: B-D indicates that the latest sequel may be headed direct to video.
NECA's Loomis, Myers, Jason 2 and parts of Momma Voorhees: On Valentine's Day, NECA lead sculpter Kyle Windrix - who goes by the moniker "Tankman" - revealed on the Movie Maniacs message boards that NECA is creating a Dr. Loomis/Michael Myers action figure set and more: "There will be NECA Myers vs Loomis two pack and 18-incher." The Myers is roughed out. The likeness and pose is much better than the other two I did. Loomis as a figure in 2004. YES!" Also, click here to check out (and pre-order) the new Jason figure from Friday the 13th 2... It comes complete with sack, pitchfork, pick axe, Mrs. Voorhees head and sweater. Order now if you are smart as they will sell out fast. I must say, this is the best figure I have seen in a while, lets hope the detail under the sack is as good as the figure itself.
Blade Spin-off and possible prequel: Creature Corner recently interviewed David Goyer about Blade: Trinity and he some interesting news. They're looking to do a possible spin-off movie with Jessica Biel and Ryan Renoylds' characters (they play vampire hunters in the movie), but nothing solid has been put to commitment yet. It's looking like if it does happen it should happen pretty soon, since Goyer's got his fingers in a lot of pies right now, including the latest incarnation of the Batman: Intimidation script. He also says he's looking into a prequel the Blade movies, with Blade being in his mid-20s and Whistler only in his 40s, but nothing's solid on that yet, either.
