House of 1000 Corpses 2: Details on the sequel are up at Bloody Disgusting.
Bubba Ho-Tep DVD: Writer/director Don Coscarelli just gave Fangoria the scoop that he has closed a deal for MGM to release his terrific Elvis-vs.-mummy horror/comedy BUBBA HO-TEP on video. “They’ve set a street date of May 25,” he tells us. “They are very enthusiastic, and it’s pretty cool that Elvis is returning to the studio where he made a lot of his films.” No details yet on DVD extras, though it has been rumored that Coscarelli and star Bruce Campbell would love to include an audio commentary with the actor speaking in character as Elvis. In the meantime, if you live in Texas and still want to catch BUBBA on the big screen, Coscarelli reports, “Bruce, Joe Lansdale [upon whose novella BUBBA is based] and I will be screening the movie at the Nacogdoches Film Festival March 5-7. We will be running PHANTASM also.” Click here to go to the official BUBBA HO-TEP website.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse: Details from the set are now up at MTV.
Romero comments on 'Dawn' remake: "I agreed to do the Night of the Living Dead remake because I felt it was a way for everyone to benefit financially from the franchise," Romero tells the magazine. "I think Dead Reckoning could be the best Dead film I've ever done, but everyone in Hollywood's obsessed with doing Teenage Horror films and it's tough to raise financing, even for someone with a track record like myself, and everyone who's read Dead Reckoning loves it. It's a story about a class struggle amidst the zombie apocalypse with the rich and the poor living opposite each other - the haves don't want to be exposed to the zombies and they don't want to share their community with the have-knots. The Dead Reckoning is this monster truck that the hero of the story travels around in. Maybe if Dawn of the Dead's a hit, it will help my film get made."
Goyer on Blade 3: "Wesley told me when we did the second one that he thought he only had one more in him but you never know. We'll see. I always conceived of three films and there is a definite ending to this. I don't want to cheat (by opening it up again). On the other hand if it does $150 million, then . . . we're all whores."
Ammityville Horror remake: A handful of sources have informed us that Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake scribe Scott Kosar is injecting his own twisted sensibilities into a draft of The Amityville Horror right now. From early reports we understand that Dan Farrands' draft of Amityville was going to be used as a platform (plot-wise) from which MGM/Dunes/Dimension would leap into the remake, however, it's unknown to what extend Farrands remains involved in the scripting process now.
Dawn of the Dead: A positive review of the remake is up at Creature Corner.
NECA reveals Hellraiser series 3: Now on-line at B-D.

Secret Window poster revealed: A first look at the one sheet is up courtesy of Creature Corner.
Jason's true face revealed: Creature-Corner was able to clear up some confusion based on the images of the unmasked "mask" of Jason Voorhees we've seen as of late (more here). Follow the link below for "..a pic of Rubies' Freddy vs. Jason mask, arriving this Fall. Sculpted by Jon Fuller, this too is based off of Bill Terezakis' design for Jason in F vs. J." Also at the link is an amazing Leatherface mask. Thanks also to Bloody Disgusting for the heads up.
King Kong remake: In August Peter Jackson starts filming (King Kong) back in New Zealand with Naomi Watts, of whom, he says, "I've been a fan for years." As for Kong himself, Jackson says, "We want him to be quite real." And the period of the film will be the same as the original - 1933 - with the Empire State Building and the biplane, "which is ingrained in memory. I want to be respectful." After that, he admits, "I want to make smaller films."
Director and cast set for Assault on Precinct 13 remake: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne have been signed to star in Focus Features’ remake of John Carpenter’s classic thriller ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. Hawke will play a cop overseeing a police station that’s in the last stages of closing down on a stormy New Year’s Eve. Fishburne’s mobster character is being temporarily held there, and when a gang lays siege to the station in an attempt to free him, Hawke’s character leads a small crew of cops and cons to fight them off. French director Jean-Francois Richet makes his English-language debut on the movie, working from a script by James (THE NEGOTIATOR) DeMonaco. Casting for supporting roles is currently underway, with filming scheduled to begin in April.
Broken Lizard gets a law suit: Variety reports that Club Med resorts have filed a federal trademark lawsuit against Fox Searchlight to stop the release of Broken Lizard’s slasher comedy CLUB DREAD. The company, which states that two-thirds of its business comes from families, objects to the film’s staging of multiple murders in a setting whose name is “a little too close for comfort,” according to Club Med VP of marketing Mark Wiser. The suit seeks not only for the film’s opening to be halted but for the destruction of anything containing the movie’s title, including all prints and posters. Wiser has even suggested alternate monikers, like BLOODWISER, McMURDER or COCA-KILLER, though he didn’t say whether the owners of those referenced trademarked names would mind having them co-opted. Presuming the suit isn’t successful, Fox Searchlight will open CLUB DREAD, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and co-starring Bill Paxton and Jordan (CABIN FEVER) Ladd, on February 27.
Death Angel's Shadow: Tonic Films, the production company headed by Lauren (CABIN FEVER) Moews, has acquired the rights to DEATH ANGEL’S SHADOW, a collection of three supernatural short stories by celebrated dark fantasy author Karl Edward Wagner. The triptych, first published over 30 years ago, follows the immortal Gothic antihero Kane as he battles werewolves, vampires and finally the apparition of the title; Moews is beginning development of the first tale, “Reflections for the Winter of My Soul,” and plans to follow it up with separate features based on the subsequent stories “Cold Light” and “Mirage.” “The character of Kane is the embodiment of evil you cannot help but root for,” Moews says. “Kane is the perfect antihero, and ‘Death Angel’s Shadow’ has all the makings of an enormously successful horror franchise.” Casting and the selection of a writer and director will take place shortly.
Grudge gets an October release: Columbia Pictures just sent out a preview of its 2004 releases, which reveals that the studio has slotted Ghost House Pictures’ THE GRUDGE for an October date. Takashi Shimizu’s remake of his Japanese JU-ON films is currently rolling in Tokyo, with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, KaDee Strickland and Clea DuVall starring.
Freddy vs. Jason 2: According to Friday the 13th films.com, Ronny Yu has signed on as director of Freddy vs. Jason 2! Update: According to sources at New Line, this is untrue, and Ronny Yu is still awaiting a treatment or script!
Terminator 4 in the works: Producer Mario Kassar recently spoke to a Lebanese film magazine regarding production for Terminator 4 and he had this to say:
"T4 is in the works. The screenplay will be ready in 8 or 9 months. Once we have that, we will proceed with the production. The question that has never been answered in all the Terminator films is time travel. You can come from the future to change the present. But we never see how they go back to the future, which is a subject that can be explored. I think you already know where T4 is going from the ending of T3".
New Dawn of the Dead pictures: Here. Also, a mini-review of the first 10 minutes of the film can also be found here.
Hellraiser: Deader and Dracula: Legacy release date confirmed: Moviehole got word through Dimension that Hellraiser: Deader be released DTV on August 31st, as will Dracula: Legacy. We previously reported that Deader might be released in October, but I aint complaining that we are getting it a month earlier.
More on NECA's Hellraiser/Series 3: The first image of NECA's Hellraiser series 3 can be found here.
It's Alive remake confirmed: Larry Cohen confirmed he is planning to remake his own 1974 classic "It's Alive". No release date or details yet. We will keep you posted here on The Hub.
The Ring 2 news: This is supposedly a script review of the first few pages of the upcoming sequel to the smash hit "The Ring" - Beware of spoilers: The first scene I read were pages 11-14 and involved Rachel who is once again trying to get some answers from Becca about Samara (Becca is the girl that survived the opening scene of The Ring and was in a mental institute). From what I read, it appears that something is going on with little Aidan and Rachel, something unexplained and scary. Something is not right and Rachel is searching for answers, that have something to do with what they were "shown" compared to what the deceased were "shown" by Samara. Within this scene there is a flashback between Becca and Samara's confrontation, which was off screen in The Ring - the assumption can be made that this scene might be trimmed down to exclude the flashbacks, according to sources. It has been reported that most of the flashbacks will be removed because Dreamworks feels they can make an excellent prequel from the flashbacks and focus more on that at another time. So with that said, the next scene should end up completely cut from he film. Pages 42-45 detail a flashback between Samara (pre-death) and her parents Richard and Anna. We see more of the pain and suffering in Anna as she wanted nothing more than a daughter, but at the same time is watching her family be torn apart by this devil child. She tells Samara to be careful with some beads her Grandmother would have wanted to give Samara and Anna says, "All she ever wanted was you." We also see the horses go crazy and Richard goes chasing after one of the horses- their names Inya and Lindy. Both horses drown in the ocean as Richard cries out in pain and agony, "Richard falls to his knees and screams helplessly as his two prize mares, one of his few loves in his world, die." Thanks to "JPM".
BRAVO’S 100 SCARIEST MOVIE MOMENTS (UPDATE): The creators of BRAVO’S 100 SCARIEST MOVIE MOMENTS documentary have completed a new round of interviews with horror folks. Those added to the lineup of the five-hour Halloween special include directors Clive Barker, Peter Jackson, Rob (MISERY) Reiner, Tobe Hooper and Mick (RIDING THE BULLET) Garris; the Broken Lizard gang; FX artists Tom Savini and Ralis (DEAD AND BREAKFAST) Kahn (appearing with girlfriend Chela Johnson, a Lion Gate publicity rep); actresses Jennifer (BRIDE OF CHUCKY) Tilly, Juliet (BUFFY/ANGEL) Landau, Courteney Cox Arquette, Jordan (CABIN FEVER) Ladd, Sheri (HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES) Moon, Carol (WHEN A STRANGER CALLS) Kane, Elizabeth (JACOB’S LADDER) Pena, Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King and Felissa (SLEEPAWAY CAMP) Rose; actors David Arquette, Rutger (THE HITCHER) Hauer, Ron (HELLBOY) Perlman, Leland (SEVEN) Orser, Kane Hodder, new Leatherface Andrew Bryniarski and Tony (CANDYMAN) Todd. “The brass at Bravo felt that we had already delivered the steak,” says 100 SCARIEST MOMENTS director Kevin Kaufman, “so we went back out and got them the sizzle. We are very excited about the additional speakers added to our show, and we have managed to interview just about everyone on our wish list. From A, Dario Argento, to Z, Rob Zombie. Heck, we even got Peter Jackson [pictured], who had just won the Golden Globe for LORD OF THE RINGS the night before and was about to be nominated for the Oscar a few hours later. As busy as he was, Peter was dying to talk about the movies and scenes that scared him the most. We can’t wait to finish cutting this epic together.” Produced by Patrick Moses and Fango’s Tony Timpone, BRAVO’S 100 SCARIEST MOVIE MOMENTS will air on the cable network over five nights Halloween week.
Freddy vs. Jason 2: According to casting directors, a search for actors for Freddy vs. Jason 2 is under way! This means that it is definitely happening, but we do not have any details as of yet. We'll keep you posted! Thanks to Friday the 13th films.com.
Alien 5: During an interview with Empire Magazine, Sigourney Weaver talked about the possibilities of an Alien 5 - "Ridley Scott and I have talked a bit about doing one where we go back to the original planet but I don't think any of us are really thinking about it. We're all too busy". She doesn't know much about the upcoming Alien vs. Predator but said the spin-off was "one of the reasons [she] wanted to die in Alien 3". Thanks to Bloody Disgusting.
THE HILLS HAVE EYES remake confirmed: Today Variety has confirmed that the project is indeed a go at Dimension. Patrick Lussier, Craven’s longtime editor and director of DRACULA 2000, was initially talked up as director, but now the reins have been passed to French filmmaker Alexandre Aja, whose ’70s gore homage HAUTE TENSION has won lotsa buzz on the festival circuit and will be released Stateside later this year by Lions Gate. Aja will script the new HILLS with his TENSION writing partner Gregory Levasseur, and Craven will produce with longtime collaborator Marianne Maddalena and the original HILLS’ Peter Locke. Presumably this means things are still copacetic between Dimension and Craven, who’s been going through some haute tension of his own working on the company’s much-troubled CURSED. Thanks to Fangoria for the heads up.
More on Hellraiser: Deader: Pics from the latest sequel are up at Hellegacy.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse: They're shooting a few days of extra "pick ups" in Toronto this week on the horror sequel.

New Alien game: 20th Century Fox’s Wireless Entertainment Group and Sorrent have just launched the mobile game ALIENS: UNLEASHED, available to Get It Now subscribers of Verizon Wireless. The game is a first-person shooter in which the player is a United Star System Colonial Marine recruit going through boot camp at the New Quantico training facility. The training involves practicing combat techniques against synthetic Aliens-until the xenomorphs malfunction and become a deadly threat, and you have to fight them off with a choice of nine exclusive Colonial Marine weapons. Go here for the game’s official page.
Riddick gets re-shoots: News of some major additional photography on 'Chronicles'. In the vicinity of $5M has been budgeted for at least seven days of filming in early March in Vancouver Canada on the Vin Diesel sequel. Some of the additional work apparently reverses the fatal fate of a major character whose demise had already been filmed during principal photography.
Halloween 9: Straight from the official site - "Regarding news on Halloween 9, we are still ironing out some details that have slightly delayed the announcements we've been wanting to make. Thank you for your numerous emails and questions about the upcoming film, and we promise to post an update soon."
Hellraiser Deader script review: Can't wait for the film? Check out the script review over at at Cenobite.com.
Arwin Meiwes Biopic: Las Horas Perdidas indicates Hugh Grant is doggedly pursuing the dramatic lead role as the famed German cannibal. Various major Hollywood stars (most notably Brad Pitt) are tipped to play the victim whose penis was severed and then the pair ate it together after frying it in garlic, salt & pepper. That would make my year to see Hugh Grant eating Brad Pitt's penis.
Dracula 3000: No relation to Dracula 2000 or it's sequels. A story outline and poster are is up at Moviehole. Sounds interesting to say the least.
History of Violence: New Line is rumoured to be quite happy with Josh Olsen's adaptation and David Cronenberg is being mentioned as a potential director.
Van Helsing: An interesting featurette is now up at the official site.
Indiana Jones 4 on hold: Variety reports that the fourth "Indiana Jones" pic is on hold as a new script draft has been commissioned. Frank Darabont had been brought in to script a concept the trio (Spielberg, Ford and Lucas) liked and earlier this week it was reported the work was complete, but sources close to the production said Producer George Lucas was unhappy with the draft. So now another screenwriter has been brought in to hone Darabont's script. Spielberg had no comment on his plans, but with the time now required and the small availability window for the trio to work together - it is now looking like a 2005 production start at the earliest for release in 2006. Some of the reasoning behind why Lucas didn't like it: "Darabont has been ordered to rewrite it, one of the elements he apparently didn't go for was a sub-plot involving Indy's brother. The brother is still going to be in it, but not as much a focus as in the current script. There needs to be more dimension to the character as well. Apparently Kevin Costner has talked to Spielberg too - but I don't know if he's in it".
Scary Movie 4: Anna Faris commented that she's signed to do Scary Movie 4 but "they want this one to concentrate on all the comic book superhero movies like Batman, Superman, X-men and so on, and I think there might be some trouble convincing the people in charge of those characters to let them be used for the movie - especially because they're going to be spoofing them - like having Charlie Sheen playing superman and all that. Apparently some of the cast from Scary Movie 3 are signed for four, including Sheen, Regina King and Leslie Nielsen. Faris said everyone, except her, will be playing new characters. Anna said that David Zucker and Pat Proft are doing the new one, and that it'll be going into production hopefully in the Fall.
First pictures from Salem's Lot: Creature Corner has three new shots from the new Stephen King "Salem's Lot" mini-series adaptation scheduled to air mid-year on TNT.
House of Wax update: According to Fangoria, the film will not be in 3-D after all. So.... what's the point?
Rosemary's Baby rumor squashed: Dark Horizons reported some interesting news this morning, "Dimension Films is rumoured to be considering a remake of the Polanski classic, Rosemary's Baby, with the idea of bringing on a "hot" up and coming female director to develop it - someone who might be a real 'Monster'." Clint over at Moviehole already looked into this rumor and sorry to say... bullshit #3. This just makes me wonder, did the little bastard who Creature-Corner exposed send all of these rumors to all the sites? Thanks to Creature Corner and Bloody Disgusting.
Rosemary's Baby: Dimension Films is rumoured to be considering a remake of the Polanski classic with the idea of bringing on a "hot" up and coming female director to develop it - someone who might be a real "Monster".
Dawn of the Dead remake news: From Bloody Disgusting - Bowser dropped me an interesting email. It appears that he has found "proof" that Dawn of the Dead is having a brand new ending reshot. Over at Tom Savini's official website he has a link up where you can see an image from the reshoots, along with a caption that I'm sure is a big time spoiler, so BEWARE. Click here to see it. Universal's remake of George Romero's classic Dawn of the Dead hits theaters March 19th.
Leprechaun 7 rumor squashed: From Bloody Disgusting and Creature Corner - next up on the chopping list is the good ol Leprechaun 7 rumor that both Creature Corner and your buddies at B-D posted last week - but I think we all knew damn well it was bullshit. Lepconnie was the first to get the final say on this ridiculous rumor, "The whole thing sounded improbable to me, but I made some inquiries because I wanted to be certain. And sure enough, it was a prank; today my contact at Lions Gate confirmed that there's no truth to the rumor." There you have it - the result? I'm sure you won't be seeing any rumors posted anytime soon, seeing that there are a lot of pranksters out there. "If it weren't for the pesky kids..." Thanks to all sources credited and Cody for the heads up!
Spider-Man 2: The budget stands at $225 million according to an Avi Arad interview in SFX Magazine.
KILL BILL producer faces THE RECKONING: Variety reports that Lawrence (KILL BILL) Bender’s A Band Apart company is teaming with Odd Lot Entertainment to produce THE RECKONING, from a script by Irving Belateche. The project is a supernatural thriller in which a woman is afflicted by visions from the past that seem to foretell her daughter’s death in the near future. Among Belateche’s other credits are an adaptation of Alfred Bester’s sci-fi novel THE DEMOLISHED MAN that Andrew (CHOPPER) Dominik is set to direct at Paramount; his latest work is no relation to a recent British medieval thriller directed by Paul McGuigan also called THE RECKONING, which Paramount Classics releases Stateside in March.
Bride gets an update: Variety reports that Universal has hired Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, who were just Oscar-nominated for the script of their acclaimed AMERICAN SPLENDOR, to rewrite and direct an updated version of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. While the storyline the duo have concocted has no connection to the 1935 James Whale classic, it also, thank goodness, departs from the futuristic action concept previously pursued by the studio. In Berman and Pulcini’s new scenario, a modern-day New York college student begins experiencing memories that aren’t her own, and discovers that she has died and been brought back to life. How Dr. Frankenstein and his monster figure into this hasn’t been explained, but SPLENDOR was so good that this has to stand up as a promising project. The new BRIDE (to be produced by Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment, whose Ron Howard was at one point attached to direct) has no connection to Universal’s upcoming VAN HELSING pic or, obviously, the updated FRANKENSTEIN TV pilot that Fangoria reported on here.
Lord of the Undead: The New York Post has reported that German director Timo Rose, creator of the MUTATION series, is working on a movie called LORD OF THE UNDEAD that depicts Jesus as the leader of a horde of zombies. Apparently, though, he and his ghouls are the good guys; evil is represented by Lilith, daughter of Lucifer, who’ll be played by busy genre fave Debbie Rochon. “I’ve played a lot of evil characters,” she told the paper, “but I never thought I’d get to kick Christ’s ass in a movie.” Rochon also recently wrapped a role in FORT DOOM, a horror/Western that reteams her with her BOG CREATURES director J. Christian Ingvordsen, and the two have another fright project currently in preproduction.
Daredevil: The "Director's Cut": DVD has been delayed over a year according to DVD Answers.
Hell2pay: Scott Pearlman of Creepy Six Films just got in touch to let Fangoria know about the latest genre feature he’s working on, the anthology horror film HELL2PAY. “I’m very excited about this project,” he tells us. “It was scripted and will be directed by Joe [NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 1 and 2] Augustyn, and it is one of the most original and entertaining specs I have read in a long time. The good news is, we will actually have a decent budget for this film, and if all goes as planned, principal photography should commence later this year. The stories center around three sets of characters who encounter a malevolent on-line auction site. Like CREEPSHOW, the script has a very EC Comics-type feel with a modern twist, and with the popularity of eBay, it is really the perfect platform for an interesting horror anthology.” By the way...Night of the Demons hits DVD in August courtesy of Anchor Bay.
Blade 3: Trinity: It's now officially wrapped and David Goyer has moved on to post-production.
Seed of Chucky rumor squashed: Straight from Don Mancini's camp and this is the reply we received from the man himself: "Ridiculous rumor #109. Brad is signed, sealed, and thrilled to death. I had lunch with him on Saturday." Thanks to Creature Corner.
Dracula: Legacy and Club Dread: A ton of new pictures for Dracula 3: Leagacy and Club Dread have been added to Upcominghorrormovies.com.
Assault on Precinct 13: Erika Baydau, Alicia Keyes and Mary J. Blige are apparently being considered for 'Eve', 50 Cent and Method Man for 'Smiley'. Oh joy, we really need another remake of a classic film with rap stars. What a great marketing idea.
The Chill Factor: Details of a new Tom Savini TV series is now online.
Seed of Chucky scoop #1: Bloody Disgusting reports this is still RUMOR, but when Mr. Clint over at Moviehole.net reports the same rumored scoop as the one I've been emailed, there must be some truth to it - and the truth could SUCK! According to my anonymous scooper, "Now This is not totally confirmed but from my inside sources, Brad Dourif is having mix feelings in the script for the new Child's Play movie - he is not sure on where the series is going and would rather not do another Child's Play movie with his career finally on the rebound with The Lord Of The Rings films. Please don't take this as confirmed news because they're still in talks; but one thing I learned is they're talking to other actors with voice similarities - most notably Christian Slater - but they're going to continue to talk to Brad Dourif. I assure you this movie is going forward with or with out Brad Dourif." Well Clint writes that, "Brad Dourif hasn't officially signed for Seed of Chucky yet and that if he balks, a replacement might be bought in to replace him." This just doesn't make sense to me though; when I met Dourif this past summer, he said he'd definitely do Seed if they ever did it, but he said that was unlikely. Clint and I are both checking into this rumor. Let's pray this is NOT true!
Seed of Chucky scoop #2: UHM has a little scoop about Jennifer Tilly playing two characters in Seed of Chucky. This scoop has NOT been confirmed, so take this as rumor until then, "Got an email earlier from someone who's in talks with people behind the production. Since nothing's official we'll have to treat it as a rumor until proven otherwise. He told me that the "New Nightmare" feel to the film that it was described to be like is due to the fact that the doll Tiffany goes through a "facelift" to look like actress Jennifer Tilly, because she's apparently obsessed with her, so fact meets fiction in a way. They are currently still doing rewrites on the script and filming is supposedly set to start March 15th in Romania."
Freddy vs. Jason 2: During a short interview over at IGN.com, Ronny Yu was asked about a sequel to the $80 million smash hit Freddy vs Jason. When asked he replied, "I'm waiting for the script. If the script's right then definitely I will do it."

Ireland's Dead Meat: Take a look at the new zombie film from Ireland here.
Stephen King's Secret Window: Sony Pictures sent Horror-Asylum ten great looking images from the latest and upcoming Stephen King adaption, Secret Window. Based on Stephen King's novella "Two Past Midnight: Secret Window, Secret Garden", Secret Window is about a writer (Depp) going through a painful divorce, who is stalked by a psychotic stranger (Turturro) who claims the writer stole his story. To force the writer to make amends, the stranger will go to any lengths, including murder. Secret Window stars Johnny Depp, Maria Bello, Timothy Hutton, Ving Rhames, Charles Dutton, John Turturro and Len Cariou and has been slated for a March 12th, 2004 release.
More action figure news: From the UK Toy Fair. This time, Figures.com has some more NECA toy news. Figures reports, "Nostalgic metal-heads will rejoice with word of a new 18" Eddie - Iron Maiden's album cover gracing zombie mascot. Plans call for the first release to be based on the artwork of Maiden's album "Somewhere In Time". This futuristic Eddie will star as both a motion activated figure with sound ($35-$40) and as a band signed statue. Look for both this fall." In addition, "Hot on the list is Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. According to our sources, NECA's two Disney theme park ride based Head Knockers released last year will be joined in 2004 by a line of movie based action figures. UK Toy Fair confirmed figures included Johnny Depp as the swashbuckling Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as the cursed Captain Barbossa."
Shaun of the Dead: Variety reports that the "zombie romantic comedy" SHAUN OF THE DEAD, directed and co-written by Edgar Wright and starring and co-written by Simon Pegg, will open in its native England April 9. Produced by WT2, the low-budget division of Working Title Films that was also behind MY LITTLE EYE, SHAUN will be released by the British arm of Universal, which is still contemplating the movie's plans for the U.S. A studio spokesman told the trade that SHAUN was greenlighted on condition that it not be released in the U.S. before Universal's DAWN OF THE DEAD remake (coming March 19); presumably SHAUN will open in the States this fall, either directly from Universal or through its specialty film unit Focus Features. Watch the amazing trailer here. Thanks to Fangoria for the heads up!
Bubba Ho-Tep DVD details: Cody from the Pit of Horror message board had this to add about the highly anticpated DVD release. "I've been trying to find out when Bubba Ho-Tep would be hitting DVD, but I couldn't find any news anywhere, not even on the official site. Maybe I just overlooked it, I don't know. Anyway, I recently ordered a T-shirt from the site's store, and on the flyer that came with the shirt it says-
"The Bubba Ho-Tep DVD will be released in May 2004. It will be loaded with very cool features including some special surprises!" Thanks Cody!

The Punisher: Wrestler Kevin Nash was accidentally stabbed by Punisher actor Thomas Jane during the shooting of a knife fight scene, although as Nash was so worked up he apparently "didn't even realize that he had actually been physically stabbed in the process". He'll be fine though, see IGN for details.
Van Helsing: The official website has relaunched with new photos, wallpapers, screensavers, and buddy icons. Also they have a 'behind-the-scenes' look at the film, which features interviews.
Eli Roth's Next: The "Cabin Fever" director talked with Bloody Disgusting about The Box, Drawn, 2001 Maniacs, Scavenger Hunt, and Camp Death.

Evil Dead prequel comic and others "Over at the news section of Tom Sullivan's website, there's a new post about an upcoming Evil Dead Prequel comics. Tom's the artist behind the Evil Dead; he created both the Book of the Dead and the Kandarian Dagger. Here's the post, "Tom currently just finished writing and designing the layouts for the first of three comic book Evil Dead prequels for Dead Dog Comics. Its a bloodbath! Expect a spring release." Also, Dead Dog Comics informed me that the Night of the Living Dead comic is due out April/May of 2004. Here's an image they sent us! Thanks to Bloody Disgusting.
Cursed gets a release date: Variety posted today their weekly update of all of the moves the studios have made for their upcoming films; the first is Wes Craven's Cursed has been moved from February to October 1st. Speaking of Cursed, Cursed Movie writes, "Late Show host Craig Kilborn has a role as himself in Cursed." Also announced today was a date for Lucky McKee's (May) second film, The Woods. Surprisingly enough, the date is also October 1st, I wouldn't be surprised if one of these two flicks changes the date yet again in the near future.
Salems Lot: A scooper at Aint it Cool News got to see a rough cut of TNT's Salem's Lot remake, which will air in June, here's a taste of what he said, "It's a really good movie, as faithful to King's novel as we could ever possibly expect with some surprising changes. It looks like a feature - they spent $25 Million and filmed it in Australia and I wish I hadn't known that while I was watching because this looks like Maine. It was directed by that Mikael Salomon who directed that awful film Hard Rain and he redeems himself here." He also writes, "It's a very good movie - and I say movie because, again, this looks like a feature - and I think fans of Salem's Lot, of King's vision, will be very happy. "
Playing with Madness: Over at Figures.com they are covering the UK Toy Fair and Creature Corner stumbled across some nice images. Follow the link for some sweet images from Palisades figures, those guys who make the kick ass Muppets Show figures.

The Grudge: Sci Fi Wire reports that Takashi Shimizu's THE GRUDGE will feature two of the cast of his original JU-ON movies, on which the new film is based. Takako Fuji reprises her role as the ghost girl Kayoko, and Yuya Ozeki returns as Toshio, another young specter. The film shoots from now through mid-March on location in Tokyo and at Toho Studios, for Columbia release. See FANGORIA #231, on sale March 18, for an in-depth look at the JU-ON series.
Leatherface needs mental help: A small controversy has brewed up over the release of the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake in Greece, according to Yahoo! News. The film is being released there under a title that translates to THE SCHIZOPHRENIC CHAINSAW KILLER, and that has Greek psychiatrists up in arms. In a joint statement, the heads of three psychiatric groups protested, "The title has no relation to the English title, the protagonist of the movie is not suffering from schizophrenia and so it is insulting and demeaning to those suffering from it. The Greek title reproduces the stereotype that everyone suffering from schizophrenia is violent and dangerous."
Eddie Presley: Tempe Video has announced details of its two-DVD Special Edition of EDDIE PRESLEY, streeting May 11 and retailing for $29.99. Halloween 9: Not much news, but it is something at least. I just called Trancas International and talked to Malek Akkad. I told him the fans were tired of waiting around for Halloweenmovies.com to post some official news. He advised that, while he can't release any 'official' information, he did tell me that we might see at least 2 characters return from previous installments. When I pressed him about the return of Sherriff Brackett ... he said "You will just have to wait and see". Akkad did confirm that Dimension films are aiming for a fall release in 2004, hopefully around Halloween weekend (Friday, the 29th). He also told me to keep an eye on Halloweenmovies.com for an official announcement coming before the end of January. Let's hope pre-production has already started.
Seed of Chucky: Writer/director Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner have let FANGORIA in on a tasty bit of casting for the upcoming SEED OF CHUCKY: Cult-film legend John Waters will play an ill-fated papparazzo. Mancini tells Fango, “John has been a Chucky fan for a long time, and I wrote the part specifically for him.” Kirschner adds, “And we made sure that he dies the most gruesome death.” Mancini and Kirschner have also signed some key behind-the-scenes talent for the Focus Features project: the cinematographer is Vernon (I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER) Layton, and genre veteran Pino (CARRIE) Donaggio will compose the score. “A lot of SEED is a takeoff on Brian De Palma’s early movies,” Mancini says, “and I thought it would be a perfect touch to have his composer do the music for our film as well.” Kirschner is looking forward to seeing Mancini, who has written all the CHILD’S PLAY films, take his long-awaited place behind the camera on the franchise. “Don deserves a lot of credit for how good BRIDE OF CHUCKY turned out,” the producer says, “and I’m very confident he’s going to do a great job as director.”
Clive Barker's Tortured Souls: Clive Barker gave FANGORIA a brief update on the TORTURED SOULS movie he’ll direct, based on the toy line he created with Todd McFarlane. “I’m turning in the script in four weeks,” he says, “and if Universal likes it, they’re prepared to go into production right away. I’ve taken the Tortured Souls toys and really expanded their universe, so it’ll be different than what fans are expecting.”
Santa's Slay: The film starring wrestler Bill Goldberg begins production Feb 23rd, see E News Zone for details.
Robert Rodriguez and Predator 3: Clint over at Moviehole caught up with Director Robert Rodriguez to chat about the DVD of Once Upon a Time in Mexico recently and ended up chatting about his future projects. The most interesting of the discussion was him talking about his Predator script entitled Predators, "So I said, yes I'll write a version of that (Predator 3). And it was just -- it was just crazy, it was huge, it was a big, big, big budget. Because I didn't have to direct it, I just had to write it. So I didn't really think about the budget, I was just like wrote this, wrote that. And it was really a cool script, it's floating around somewhere. But it's huge, and will never be made, the studio edited it and said there's no way we can make this, this would cost -- even at that time -- 150 million, and no women would ever go see this movie."
Resident Evil: Apocalypse: Milla Jovavich and Sienna Guillory talk about the RE sequel with some behind the scenes video over at Crazie's RE Fansite.
Vote in the 13th Annual Chainsaw Awards: Vote for you favorites of 2003. No Freddy vs. Jason for Best Wide Release film? I am in shock... anyhow, click here to cast your votes.
Monster Island: Director Jack Perez has informed Fango that his old-fashioned creature feature MONSTER ISLAND is set to premiere on MTV Sunday, March 7 at 7 p.m. In the movie, Carmen Electra plays herself, and gets captured on the titular locale, where a group of young people have to fight off giant insects and other beasts to rescue her. In the great old-fashioned tradition, the monsters were created via full-sized props and stop-motion animation (by David Bowes Productions); the human co-stars include Adam West (as Dr. Harryhausen!), former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter (soon to star in Tobe Hooper’s BREW), Daniel (CAMP) Letterle, Cascy (SCOOBY-DOO 2) Beddow, Mary Elizabeth (WOLF LAKE) Winstead and C. Ernst (13 GHOSTS) Harth. Perez, who scripted with Adam Glass, tells Fango that the movie will air in letterbox format with only one commercial interruption, and repeat several times thereafter; MONSTER ISLAND has also been picked up for video distribution by DEJ, with a tentative street date of October 19.
The Black Dahlia: "Scarlett Johansson will star in The Black Dahlia, opposite Josh Hartnett and Mark Wahlberg for director Brian De Palma. Shooting begins late May in LA.

Song of Kali: Variety reports that Darren (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM) Aronofsky will produce a film version of Dan Simmons’ novel SONG OF KALI with Eric Watson for his Protozoa Pictures company. Lucas Sussman, who co-wrote the original script of BELOW with Aronofsky, is screen-adapting the story of an American poet, his Indian wife and their baby who travel to Calcutta and become embroiled with a cult that worships that ancient Indian goddess of the title. No director has been named for the film, which is being backed by the New Regency company for release by Fox. New Regency is also developing FLICKER, scripted by Aronofsky and Jim (FIGHT CLUB) Uhls, based on Theodore Roszak’s novel about a film student who comes to believe that B-movies are part of a plot to destroy life on Earth.

C.J. Graham's official site JasonVI "Lives":
Cabin Fever 2: From Eli Roth: Contractually, when we sold the movie, I told them that I would write a treatment and I have the first right to do it, if I want. So I wrote and turned in the treatment. Now, Lions Gate Films just bought Artisan, so there’s this whole change-over going on, all kinds of shit going on, so they basically have to read it and say if they want to do it or not. And it’s really fuckin’ weird. I feel like if people want to see CABIN FEVER 2, they’re going because they want the weirdness. I’d want it to be all about Deputy Winston and the various creatures that are in his head. I’d love to bring Ryder Strong back as well. Ryder’s so fuckin’ cool. He’s a cool, easy-going dude. They just have to trust me that it would work. It’s really fucked up, but I also have a great way to tie everything up and bring people back and make it fucked up, but not cheesy. But it’s a long way away. I don’t want to make CABIN FEVER 2 my next film.
Assault on Precinct 13: French director Jean-Francois Richet will helm the remake of the John Carpenter classic which starts filming April in Toronto.
Turn: Following his successful remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Marcus Nispel will direct "Turn" for Radar Pictures at Paramount. Based on a Japanese film by the same name, "Turn" is a supernatural thriller about a woman who slips into a coma after an accident and finds upon waking that she is in a parallel reality -- a completely empty city, where she is forced to relive the same day over and over again.
The Passion of the Christ: A special edition of ABC's "Primetime Live" will air on February 16th in which Mel Gibson will do an interview to 'defend' against brewing criticism against his Christ film.

LORD OF THE RINGS takes 11 Oscar nominations: In the nominations for the 78th Annual Academy Awards just announced this morning, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING scored 11 nods, including the trilogy's third consecutive Best Picture nomination (a first for any film series). In addition, Peter Jackson, who got a Best Director nom for FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING but was overlooked for THE TWO TOWERS, got a nod as well. In addition, RETURN won nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Art Direction, Costume Design, Visual Effects, Makeup, Original Score, Original Song and Sound. That makes it the movie with the most nominations this year and, given its triumph at the Golden Globe Awards this past Sunday, the front-runner to win. For the record, FELLOWSHIP landed 13 nominations two years ago and won four Oscars, while TWO TOWERS got four nominations and won two.
VH1 Slashers: This Saturday at 10/9 central, VH1 will be airing an episode of their new "Super Secret Movie Rules" show and their first episode will be the "Slashers" episode including all of our favorite horror villians. According to the VH1 website, the show will include interviews with Joe Bob Briggs, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, P.J. Soles & Heather Langenkamp. The movies include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child's Play, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scary Movie & Freddy Vs. Jason. VH1 writes, "Why are slasher movies a cut above other genres? Is it the fact that in these films, sluts die and virgins live? Is it the way these killers can be shot, stabbed, burned and decapitated but still never seem to die? Is it the way spooked teenager peers seem to view dark, empty rooms as welcome mats? The answers to these and many other pointed questions can be found in the Slashers episode of VH1's newest series, Super Secret Movie Rules, which injects some new blood into a popular film format.

Right now this is being jettisoned as Dreamworks wants to make that section of the script into a completely independent prequel film (which Ehren will at least write the treatment for, if not the whole film) and thus is busy trying to come up with a beginning for the movie and still be able to make its march start date.
