'DEAD AND GONE' NEARS COMPLETION!
A complicated story that involves a one-time actor (Quentin Jones) who brings his comatose studio exec wife (Kathryn Bates) to a secluded mountain cabin, Dead And Gone promises to be an engaging tale of compromises and monstrous choices, as the perceived victim slowly becomes the instigator. The cast of this hair-raising tale also includes Gillian Shure, Chris Bruno and Zack Ward. Also look for 'Tenacious D' rocker Kyle Gass as a preacher (!).
Celebrated genre maestro Harry Manfredini has been tapped to score Dead And Gone. "This script has a quality to it that makes it a classic," he says. "It is scary and creepy, witty and sarcastic. It is simple but textured. It keeps your interest with a varied arsenal of visual and verbal techniques."
We're onboard. Once a release date is announced, you'll hear more about it here. In the meantime, check out the official website. Sounds like it could be a winner!
THIS IS NO 'HARD CANDY' CHRISTMAS!
Nor is it an adaptation of The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, but never mind. Lions Gate is preparing to unleash Hard Candy this week, a table-turning tale of what happens to an internet stalker whose would-be victim turns the tables and becomes his worst nightmare. The studio has also lent its voice in a new campaign against online harassment. Read more here.

MASTERS OF HORROR: IMPRINT... reviewed
Below is my review of the notorious IMPRINT from the acclaimed Masters of Horror series. Directed by Takashi Miike, on the forefront
of Japanese horror with around 70 titles to his director name, it provided much food for thought...
"So, this has been banned stateside right? I watched it last night on cable. I can see WHY it has been banned, however, as a horror fan, nothing really shocked me.
There were alot of dead babies getting slung about throughout the picture with one making a trip down a river and the other residing in a bucket of guts, and I guess that your average person is not going to appreciate that. One scene of torture also sticks out in my mind, as it was very well crafted indeed. Actually, it was quite brutal, yet reserved, but definitely prolonged if that makes any sense to you. Very effective and innovative. I've never seen anything like it to be honest.
The main characters, in a nutshell, are a whore played by Youki Kudoh and a man searching for a lost whore, who is played by Billy Drago (The Untouchables / The Hills Have Eyes 2006). Drago as always, puts in a solid piece of work and Kudoh is very convincing as a person who has more to her than meets the eye.
On the whole I was not overly impressed with this movie. I felt it dragged alot and as a result I lost interest halfway through. Hell, I lost interest halfway through the torture scene I just mentioned. It felt gratuitous more than anything... like they flung in aspects simply for a rise or to be too clever, which I suppose a horror movie is all about and is the makings of critical acclaim. However, I just didn't feel locked to the screen, my mind wandered, entertainment value was lacking.
In conclusion, the visuals were memorable, the make-up effects were nice and nasty and the main cast performed excellently. Albeit, contradictory to what I just said, I didn't enjoy IMPRINT as much as I had hoped for whatever reason. Pretty lacklustre, in a word. You should see it though, and make up your own mind. You'll either love it or loathe it, bearing in mind that Asian horror is more visually based than American and alot of the time far more subtle too... or not."

ABOMINABLE ADDITION TO GUTS AND GORY...
We never knew much about this movie until recently, however, now it has really
grabbed our interest. Featuring a great cast, including Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Near Dark), a musical score by Lalo Schifrin (The Amityville Horror)
and some great looking special FX, Abominable looks like some sheer grade-A horror entertainment. Check out the trailer on the official website. After you get done doing that
stop by the new official forum on Guts and Gory where director, Ryan Schifrin, has been interacting with our members, giving us all the latest information
on his upcoming movie. Fangoria screens Abominable in New York this weekend, expect a PIT OF HORROR review very shortly...

PETCH REVIEWS THE NEW ROB ZOMBIE ALBUM!
Filmmaker Rob Zombie returns to his rocking roots on his anxiously-awaited new album Educated Horses, his first since 2001's The Sinister Urge. In the interim since that last record, the auteur has written and directed two highly acclaimed horror films: 2003's House Of 1000 Corpses and its companion piece, last year's The Devil's Rejects, a refreshingly well-received horror piece which even garnered "Two Thumbs Up!" from Ebert & Roeper, highly unusual for a mega-violent genre effort. Now he's back to his first love with a smashing set of ambitious tunes which challenge those whose tastes still pine for Hellbilly Deluxe and which rock the socks off the rest of us. The wait is over, Zombie fans. Pick up Educated Horses at your first opportunity, and have your mind blown. If that comment doesn't sell you, read Petch's review, then go buy the damn thing.
Also, be sure and visit Rob Zombie's official site while you're at it.
SEE THE PIT 'SLITHER' WITH NEW UPDATES!
This past week saw the domestic release of James Gunn's genre-bending mutant romp Slither, and tying in with the release is a series of clips and trailers which are viewable online at the official site right here. Moreover, you can read John Gray's enthused review of the movie here and hopefully put it on your movie-going agenda in the coming week; it could use a little boost at the box office.

Also, congratulations to Christopher Ell from California, who has won the $25,000 grand prize of the recent "Slug It Out!" Slither TV spot contest. Ell's creation was chosen from hundreds of entries as the top creative by the film's director James Gunn and one of its producers, Paul Brooks and was also aired during last week's broadcast of the highly-rated NBC series "My Name Is Earl." Kudos to Mr. Ell!
Also on tap is John's review of the video release 2001 Maniacs, starring recent Pit interviewee Robert Englund as the kindly mayor of a down-home Southern township whose citizens have a rather nasty habit of cooking up and consuming visitors, like the three college kids who have just traipsed into their neck o' the woods. Look for amusing cameos by the likes of Kane Hodder and Eli Roth. Read the review here.
THIS AIN'T NO APRIL FOOL JOKE--'WOLF CREEK' DVD CONTEST!
We don't give a rat's ass if it IS April Fool's Day, we're seriously giving away some copies of the new Wolf Creek DVD as our latest trivia contest. This brutal chiller from the Outback was a success during its Yuletide run in domestic theatres, to the tune of over $16 million in box office returns. Wolf Creek picked up some impressive acclaim at last year's Sundance Film Festival, and it's sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!
So if you're eligible to enter (i.e., that is, if you're a registered and participating member of the Guts And Gory forum), getcha' ass over to this page and try your hand at two measly trivia questions. It just may change your life. Okay, it probably won't do that, but dammit, wouldn't that Wolf Creek DVD look spiffy in ya friggin' movie library? I thought so.
