Michael Myers (Chris Durand) comes face to face with Laurie Strode in Halloween H20

CHRIS DURAND DIDN'T SUCK AS MYERS...I AM TELLING YOU...

I have remained tight lipped on the subject for quite some length of time. I felt it was time I should speak out on the matter. All I ever hear is "Durand sucked" as Myers or "Durand ruined H20", yadda, yadda, yadda. Except I don't see any explanations as to WHY they think he sucked as Myers or why they think he ruined H20. And if they do give me a reason I think it is bullcrap for lack of a better expression.

In pursuit of Laurie's son, his nephew, John (Josh Hartnett) and his girlfriend Molly (Michelle Williams)

I thought Durand was great as Myers. I liked H20 though. So I am definitely in the minority. My one major quam with the flick is the use of the Scream score throughout the movie...other than that, I think H20 is a solid flick and beats the hell out of H8 or even Halloween 5.

I don't get why fans hate it so much, or more specifically why they rag on Durand. I thought that he studied the role very well, and emulated alot of the moves and twitches that Castle and Warlock pioneered in Halloween amd Halloween II. That said, the word on the street is that he never studied the previous movies at all, however, this tells me that Miner (director) did, because there is no way Durand walked into that job and played Myers the way he did without any instructions from the director or perhaps watching the previous movies himself.

I also don't get the severe negativity with this movie from the majority of Halloween fans. I can already hear somebody cry, "crappy, cash-in, teen fest with a Scream score". Fair-dos on the latter, but H8 was a terrible movie and far more guilty in terms of being a cash-in and trying to be trendy, but the fans seems to like it. Go figure.

One of the reasons cited to me in regards to Durand's performance as Michael Myers in H20 was that he walked too fast. Walked too fast? When, where, what scene? Lets say he did walk briskly, what is wrong with that anyway? No faster than the speed he (Myers) walked in Halloween when Laurie was trying to get back into the Wallace house...right? Or when Laurie goes over the bannister in Halloween and he lurches (quickly, no less) over the bannister before running down the staircase after her. Come on! You need to do better than that!

Myers viciously stabs his nephew John's leg

Another reason cited is that he made Myers seem more "super-human". Super human? What scenes in particular make him seem more unkillable or "superhuman" than in previous Halloween movies? Have you seen Part 4? You know, when Akkad tried to turn Michael Myers into the next Jason Voorhees?!?! Do you remember that he was set on fire in Halloween II through the explosion of a pressurized oxygen tank in the hospital? That he was Shot 6 times in the original and then fell off a second story balcony? Do you remember that the said gun shots and explosion happened on the same night? And yet Myersstill comes back, bigger than ever and immune to shotgun blasts at point blank range ala zombie Jason Voorhees in the Return of Michael Myers!

I think these reasons for hating on Durand's portrayal of Myers are lame. Sorry, but I do. People are just looking for a reason to rag on Durand because it seems to be the general consensus with the majority of Halloween fans. The man did nothing wrong! He took the Myers role back to it's roots, whether he intended to or not. He was smaller, sleeker and took movements from the Myers in both the original Halloween and the first sequel. The mask in H20 sucked, I'll give you that, but the masks in Halloween 4 and 5 were far, far worse.

One of the best scenes of the movie, Michael swings his knife with intent at the trapped teenagers

I think a major reason why people disliked him as Myers is because he is smaller than the previous actors in Halloween 4 (6) and 5. However, Castle isn't a huge guy and Warlock certainly isn't big. So that reason for disliking the man as Myers also sucks because Castle and Warlock were far and away the best guys to play Myers, bearing in mind that we don't actually see Myers all that much in the original, and also that he was played by several different people.

To conclude, Durand was a good Michael Myers as far as I am concerned. He is the major reason I even like H20. He was the saving grace. Make no mistake, he is no Castle or Warlock, but he is much closer to the mark than Wilbur or Shanks. No doubt.

Michael comes face to face with his sister Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) after all this time...
