THE HILLS HAVE EYES (2006)
If you've read my reviews up to now, you'd know that I am not, by any means, a fan of remakes or Alexandre Aja. In fact, I really hated High Tension. I remember my review and how completely and utterly angry I was at the movie....but isn't that what a horror movie is supposed to do? I guess so. How can you make a tasteful horror film anyways? Well, Aja has done it! He has redeemed himself in my eyes by writing and directing a brilliant remake of the classic Wes Craven film The Hills Have Eyes.
In the new Hills, the song remains the same - A family road trip goes terrifyingly awry when the travelers become stranded in a government atomic zone. Miles from nowhere, the Carter's soon realize the seemingly uninhabited wasteland is actually...

V FOR VENDETTA
V for Vendetta is a more ambitious production than The Matrix since it attempts to make a powerful political statement. Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as "V." Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself - and emerges as his unlikely ally...

WOLF CREEK
Greg Mclean's cinematic debut film 'Wolf Creek' is
indie horror at its finest. This rough low-budget film
nonetheless shows Mclean's early promise, although it
is ironic that there is not much blood in the film.
The movie is a comment on violence, and to that end it
is the realistic handling of the violence and killings
that will bring this film its notoriety, and that mark
it as different from other work being pumped into
theater's as of late. This significant film may
influence filmmakers of a new generation, but is far
from being comfortable viewing.
'Wolf Creek' is a chilling, factually-based, story of
three road-trippers in remote Australia who are
plunged into danger when they accept help from a
friendly local...

MORTUARY
After Tobe Hooper's last film, The Toolbox Murders
remake, I was on fire to see his next project. When I
heard about Brew I was hopeful... Bill Moseley and
Tobe Hooper together again? Sadly, it didn't happen.
So when I heard that Hooper was working on Mortuary
with the same writers that did The Toolbox remake, I
was on board and hyped up. Well, The Pit just
received a screener of the film and needless to say, I
had fun with it... but it's definitely not what I was
expecting.
In Mortuary, the Doyle family moves to rural
California to start a new life; perhaps a strange
choice because their new life takes on the form of
running the long abandoned Fowler Brothers Funeral
Home. The locals fear the place, and there are
whispers around town that the land the home lies on is
haunted...

NIGHTWATCH
'Nightwatch' is one of those films that you either
love or hate. There’s no middle ground on this issue.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s 'Underworld' meets 'Franz
Kafka' meets 'The Matrix'.
In 'Nightwatch', among normal humans live the "Others"
possessing various supernatural powers. They are
divided up into the forces of light and the forces of
the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to
end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of
light govern the day while the night belongs to their
dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others
actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night
Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's
protagonist, try to control them and limit their
outrage.
