SAW II - Poster Art SAW II
Jigsaw is back, and oh yes... there will be blood... and LOTS of it! Gorehounds rejoice, the second best movie of the year (next to The Devils Rejects) hits the big screen just in time for Halloween. Back are writer Leigh Whannell, Tobin Bell as the sadistic teacher, and Shawnee Smith as Amanda the druggie 'saved' by Jigsaw in the first film. Out is Saw director James Wan... in is Darren Lynn Bousman and the film is just as professionally crafted as the first. Folks who hated the quick edit style of the first film will hate Bousman, but who cares, I like it.

In Saw II, there's an excellent script, ambient mood music, and good dose of style thrown in for a film that has some sources derived from a series of hidden cameras. The result is still surprisingly effective, and director Bousman does a... MORE

A history of Violence - Poster Art A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
David Cronenberg's latest, A History of Violence may very well be his best film ever. It's disturbing, sensual, violent, and loving all at the same time. Based on the graphic novel by John Wagner and Vince Locke, A History of Violence is the tale of Tom (Viggo Mortensen) Stall. Tom is a loving family man and well-respected citizen of a small Indiana town. But when two savage criminals show up at his diner, Tom is forced to take action and thwart the robbery attempt. Suddenly heralded as a hero who took the courage to stand up to crime, people look up to Tom as a man of high moral regard. But all that media attention has the likes of mobsters showing up at his doorstep, charging that Tom is someone else they've been looking for. Is it a case of mistaken identity or does Tom have a history that no one knows about? Either way, someones about to find out if there's a history of violence... MORE

The Fog (2005) - Box Art THE FOG (2005)
Stay out of the FOG! Seriously, stay FAR away from The Fog. I am sick from just returning from what I thought might be a good remake. I love the original and remember being scared out of my wits as a kid after seeing the original. Do you think Hollywood has finally gone too far? Remaking everything from Dawn of the Dead, to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and now The Fog. Why are these horror classics being made over? Hollyweird is out of ideas and keen on ripping off great films like John Carpenters original, and terrifying The Fog.

Widely considered as being one of the best horror films ever made - with its moody atmosphere, brilliant suspense build-up's and excellent musical score - it is highly recommended that you watch this original masterpiece... MORE

Return of the Living Dead 4 & 5 - Box Art RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 4 and 5
First, let me begin by admitting that I am a BIG fan of the Return of the Living Dead franchise, and William Butler. I realize that this makes me a mutant in some people's eyes, but I get fanatical about other things that fans of ROTLD may not. And other than the Romero trilogy, I always thought ROTLD was the best of the zombie best. Well, the latest and now my least favorite of the series. Necropolis had the potential to be great, but falls flat on it's face. Written (and very well written I might add) by Guts and Gory fave William Butler (Madhouse) and Aaron Strongoni and poorly directed by Ellory (Eight Legged Freaks) Elkayem.

The story goes like this - Julian, Zeke and friends are typical high school seniors enjoying ordinary teen lives until a motorbike accident lands Zeke in the hospital... MORE

Fangoria's Blood Drive II - Box Art FANGORIA'S BLOOD DRIVE II
The first and best film by far is We All Fall Down by Jake Kennedy. The Ringu-esque chiller follows the story of high school friends that kill a little girl by accident, and dispose of the corpse in a rather nasty and unconventional way. Needless to say, she gets her revenge on all of them and the short really works. I was amazed at how much meat Kennedy put into such a short time frame. The production values are also amazing. It looks like the filmmakers spent a good amount of time and money to make sure his film was the best. I see a bright future for Mr. Kennedy.

The second chiller is not so chilling as it is strange. The Gibbering Horror of Howard Ghormley by Steve Daniels can only be described as an Ed Wood meets HP Lovecraft genre film? It probably looked the best out of all the films... MORE
