RED EYE This movie deserves a commendation, after all one would suspect that you would have to try really hard to make something this thrilling. The creation of a great movie is likely more difficult than one would think, Wes Craven seems to have it down to a science. Clearly screenwriter Carl Ellsworth (in his screenwriting debut) knew what would work and what would not. What really works here is the atmosphere of the film. The story of Red Eye follows Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) after attending the funeral of her grandmother in Dallas, TX must take the dreaded red eye flight back to Miami to make it to work the next day. Lisa soon meets Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy) and their attraction grows. But moments after take-off... MORE THE CARD PLAYER In The Card Player, (IL CARTAIO) the latest installment from maestro Dario Argento, policewoman Anna Mari (Stefania Rocca) teams up with a British Interpol agent John Brennan (Liam Cunningham) to find a crafty serial killer whom plays a taunting game of internet poker with the police by abducting and killing young women and showing it over an Internet web cam. Pretty sweet concept right? Looking back and seriously thinking about what Dario Argento has accomplished in horror, I don't think we will see him top this film soon. This is a leap for Argento being his first thriller and trust me; I was just as skeptical as you are reading this review. But Argento does an amazing job of... MORE HELLRAISER: HELLWORLD After the success of Hellraiser it was somewhat inevitable that sequels would follow. In the eight installment of the neverending franchise, Hellworld, it is indeed the first effort in a long time to make an actual Hellraiser film and it makes quite a fun and nasty one, although sadly it lacks the style of the original. The film begins with five friends and a funeral... Chelsea (Katheryn Winnick), Mike (Henry Cavill), Jake (Christopher Jacot), Derrick (Khary Payton), Allison (Anna Tolputt). They have all been playing a deadly game online called "Hellworld" and Chelsea's boyfriend has commited suicide in a very painful way. The story then picks up 2 years later and they are all invited to a Hellworld reunion party at Leviathan mansion... MORE OLD BOY Oldboy begins with an intriguing premise: A man wakes up in what looks like a seedy hotel room. He eventually figures out that he has been kidnapped and imprisoned without explanation. After 15 years, he then is released, equipped with money, a cellphone and expensive clothes. The rest of the plot concerns Dae-su Oh (Min-sik Choi) torturing his way to the truth. Including a gruesome scene involving a hammer and teeth. Ouch! As he strives to explain his imprisonment and get his revenge, he soon finds out that not only his kidnapper has still plans for him, but that those plans will serve as the even worse finale to 15 years of imprisonment.
