Fridays will never be the same again...

Thirteen Facts
About Jason X:

1. With the long-anticipated Freddy Vs. Jason project still in limbo, plans for a non-Freddy, tenth Jason movie began to shape, complete with the (still-workable) idea of Jason stalking a snowbound Crystal Lake at wintertime.

2. Screenwriter Todd Farmer, knowing that a Freddy Vs. Jason would likely eventually get made, opted to open the story in 2010, with a chained-up Jason in a laboratory. That way, a present-day Freddy Vs. Jason could still happen without disrupting continuity, since there was no way in Hell either villain would actually die in such a film.

3. The original script spent a good amount of time on "Old Earth," with a robotic army of cyber-spiders wreaking havoc against the intrepid researchers.

4. Some character name changes ensued as the project took shape. Professor Yllo became Professor Lowe, and hero Delongpre became Tsunaron. Jonathan Potts and Chuck Campbell played the roles, respectively.

5. Heroic android Kay-Em 14 went through several re-writes and re-imaginations, from a foul-mouthed, singing harpy to a sharp-witted, gun-wielding bad-ass. Canadian actress Lisa Ryder played the role.

6. Famed genre director David Cronenberg appears in a cameo during the prologue. Reportedly, he agreed to appear in the film as long as his character would be murdered by Jason. He was. And Cronenberg even wrote some of his own lines, such as, "I don't want him frozen, Rowen. I want him soft."

7. The Canadian visual effects company ToolBox was commissioned to supply digital effects for Jason X, marking the first time CGI was ever used for a Friday the 13th film.

8. Since screenwriter Todd Farmer appears as the character Dallas, and his good buddy Dean Lorey had met a rough demise in New Line's Jason Goes To Hell (which Lorey had co-written), Todd thought it only fitting that he do the same himself. Hence, the VR scene in Jason X features Dallas bashed to death by Jason (Kane Hodder).

9. Character actor Robert Silverman portrays the enigmatic Dieter Perez. Silverman is a Cronenberg alumnus, with such films as Scanners and Prom Night on his resume.

10. Perennial series vet Harry Manfredini once again supplied the musical score, with an end title provided by an outfit called Mean Bunny.

11. Betsy Palmer was offered a cameo as Mrs. Voorhees for a virtual reality sequence. In it, Jason would have confronted his own mother, now drowning in Crystal Lake, and pushed her head under instead of saving her, to cement his standing as serial killer with no attachments. Mrs. Palmer opted not to appear in the film, and the scene was re-written.

12. After many annoying delays, Jason X finally opened on April 26, 2002.

13. 2002 was a competitive year, and Jason X managed to gross $13,121,555 at the box office.
