Appreciation

Stu's Discussion forum on Guts and Gory

Just to get the "word ball" rolling, I said this particular word today and it struck me, that in our time and place, appreciation has lost some of, what I consider to be, it's proper power and place in our understanding.

Here's my skinny on it.

It's not the things one experiences in one's life that make their lives happy or not... it's the appreciation OF those things one experiences, that really makes them fly where they may.

Appreciation.

Now, chances are pretty good that everybody reading this kinda already agrees, but I wanted to make sure something specific about it was mentioned.

That is, things that you never heard of, like Pajman syrup, or Coliforst wine or the like, though they may be extraordinary in their way, are, and will remain invisible to your appreciation. Likewise, anything that isn't NOW in your possession, however much you appreciate whatever it is, is temporarily un-fully-appreciated.

That leaves us, as always, with what you're experiencing right NOW.

Full appreciation of your current experience, is the key to glee.

If your vision were completely taken away for two minutes, BLIND! Darkness. Feeling your way around with your hands, ears, passions.

If your sight suddenly returned, your appreciation of your eyes would grow like springtime bamboo. Of course, you'd forget by the end of the day (as it should be), but for a while.

If you were suddenly living like someone from two hundred years ago, your appreciation of your sink, toilet, refrigerator, air conditioner, shoes, etc. would likewise increase.

But consider, in 200 years, things that we're not now aware of, will be commonplace, making the richest among us look like peasants, and the poorest among us would look rich, by today's standards.

Appreciation is the doorway to having your present.

Injoy.
