In 1987 Richard Donner and Joel Schumacher - among many others - introduced the world to a new kind of horror movie and moreover a new kind of 'Vampire'
horror movie. 'The Lost Boys'. The old style baldy headed 'Salem's Lot, Count' is trashed for a new breed of
the blood thirsty in a truly stylish, hip, entertaining and classic horror movie!
'Sleep all day. That little verse and the tagline alone let us know before we even watched the movie that we as the viewers were in for a hell of a ride and a 'helluva'
a good movie. With an all star cast including the likes of Corey Feldman, Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland and bodacious Alex Winter - 'no way, yes way!' -
'The Lost Boys' is a movie of this genre with a difference.
Forget all these other hippy movies nowadays with their hippy soundtracks, this movie really does have the 'hip' soundtrack with Echo And The Bunnymen keeping it strange
and Thomas Newman giving us an excellent original score for the movie. Make no mistake, I see many attempts in recent years at 'cool' horror movies, but 'The Lost Boys'
is the original cool horror film.
Set in the coastal town of 'Santa Carla' - the murder capital of the world - it entails the story of teenager/turning adult, Michael Emerson (Jason Patric) falling in with the
'bad crowd'; the only thing is this is the 'bad crowd' with a difference with a set of fangs and an excitment for blood. Soon enough Michael is drawn into their little circle with
sex, drugs and rock and roll all playing their part in his seduction by David - Kiefer Sutherland - and his boys.
Before long the nightmare begins and the script gets rolling. Make no error, 'The Lost Boys' is a classic horror movie, it's only difference is it is a classic with a cool image
which many try to imitate and most fail.
'The Lost Boys' is 94 minutes of film you have to see...
