Thirteen Facts
About Friday The 13th Part 7 - The New Blood:

1. This sequel was the first to feature actor/stuntman Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees. His most recent work in the horror genre had been as the villainous ghost in the film Prison.

2. Director John Carl Buechler had already established himself in the field as a make-up effects artist. Some of his previous work can be seen in such films as Ghoulies and Troll.

3. All new musical pieces were by Fred Mollin. Series veteran Harry Manfredini did share screen credit because existing cues he'd recorded for earlier installments were used in some scenes.

4. Terry Kiser, who played the treacherous Dr. Crews, is most recognizable as a dead guy--the title character in the Weekend At Bernie's movies.

5. Speaking of Kiser's performance as Dr. Crews, his death scene was trimmed significantly. A dummy of the character was filmed being torn apart by the weed-whacking tool Jason wielded, complete with artificial viscera being flung about. In order to secure an R-rating, practically all of the make-up effects were removed.

6. Two working titles for the film were Jason's Last Rites and Birthday Bash, the latter being a reference to the ill-fated surprise party for unlucky birthday boy Michael (William Butler).

7. Director Buechler appears in a cameo as the firefighter who picks up the remains of Jason's hockey mask at the end of the picture.

8. Heroine Tina Shepard (Lar Park Lincoln) has a vision of her mother's demise at Jason's hands while driving a car. Buechler originally wanted the vision to be of Jason holding the severed head of Mrs. Voorhees, but the powers-that-be at Gulf + Western wouldn't allow it. Thought it was too over-the-top or something. Whatever.

9. A denouement scene was filmed in which a fisherman in a boat on Crystal Lake hooks a largemouth bass, but as he's reeling it in, Jason rises from the lake and pulls him under. The scene was removed from the final cut, because it was deemed (perhaps wisely) too close to the ending of the original Friday the 13th. But a VHS copy of the footage does exist in Mr. Hodder's possession….

10. The opening date for this film was Friday, 13 May 1988--the first time in four years that an installment of the series actually opened on a calendar Friday the 13th.

11. Despite the New England setting for Crystal Lake, this sequel was actually filmed in Point Clear, Alabama.

12. The footage of Jason's tombstone exploding during the prologue sequence didn't come from any previous Friday the 13th movie, but rather from non-movie shots filmed specifically for the theatrical trailer to Part VI.

13. $19.17 million was the reported box-office total for Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood.
